I can see sheets of pollen blowing by. It is everywhere.
It's snowing pollen today
I know .. my poor car is going to have to fend for itself for a few weeks without a bath. Got the windows open today and the kitties are lovin sittin in the window sills .. cleaning off all the pollen for me.

I sneezed every time I stepped outside today.
My azalea blossoms all have a yellow film on them.
Deb
if a large bird lands or something make the branches of our pines move, there is a yellow puff sent up from the entire branch... its gross
When I went out to close the greenhouse I noticed there was pollen on all my seedlings. I am so blessed not to have allergies. I really feel for people who do .. this time of year must be awful.

It is raining Live Oak leaves too. This is the 3rd year in a row that we are experiencing an unusually heavy leaf drop.
you can blame THAT on the drought!
I just wish those oak leaves were better suited to mulching .. no matter how much I chop em up with the mower they just don't want to disintegrate.

Live oak leaves are pretty much useless. On the other hand I wish I had a live oak big enough to put a tree house in. Always wanted a tree house in a big tree. I mean the kids would like that some day. LOL. I have big pine trees but they worry me standing under them let alone trying to put a tree house in one.
why do you say live oaks are useless??? they provide great microclimates and opportunuties for more tender plants
The leaves. Not the trees.
did yall hear about this??

oh.. ok.... yeah, they are kind of a nuisance
I agree on the oak leaves. They also get caught up in every corner of my yard and won't break down like the rest of the blown in material. So I have to gather them all up and cart them back into the woods (until the next storm). I started working this weekend in the yard and they already are a nuisance.
If the weather keeps warming like this, the pollen count is probably going to explode. We've had decently spaced showers here lately, and as long as we get one every 2-4 days the pollen isn't too bad. But if we go a week or more, it looks like a yellow coat of snow. We use OTC Nasalcrom and it seems to do wonders (just have to start it as early as possible). Last year for the first time in a looong time I didn't have many problems. So far so good this year too.
Hi Everyone!
It's not the yellow pine pollen that is bothersome to your noses - it is more likely the oak and the birch etc. that pollinate during the same time. The pine is messy but not too likely to be the allergen that triggers your allergies. Don't sleep with the windows open as tempting as it is - those trees like to let the pollen fly early morning hours.
thanks for the info also for those of us who live in wax myrtle country, those are lettin the yellow stuff fly now too
It's just a pollen fest down here. I know they say it's really the oak pollen but it gets to a point to whether you have allergies or not, you start to wheeez. The pine pollen is a 1/4 inch deep on my back porch. I have to clean it but I might as wait for a week or so until it calms down.
BTW we have oaks everywhere.
