Question about variegation

South, TX

I read someplace that the wrong fertilizer will make the variegation all green! YIKES. I use the hill county fert. now. I use to use Schultz. All is fine so far. I wondered what you all knew about that.

Too much nitrogen can cause variegation to go green. Hill Country should be balanced well enough that you won't have to worry about it. In the three numbers of a fertilizer, for instance 12-36-14, the first number is the nitrogen concentration. Here's the Optimara page about Nitrogen overload. http://www.optimara.com/doctoroptimara/diagnosis/nitrogenoverload.html

Temperatures too warm can also cause variegation to lessen. Critterologist wrote an article about variegated AVs that you might like to read. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/402/

I hope that helps and answers your question. :o)
