EMERGENCY! I have a problem with my Kohleria Longwood

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

I have slowly hardened it off to being in the window all day. It has been fine until this evening. When I got home (It was really hot today) the plant was limp and droopy. The leaves and all are still the same color, but it is just so sad looking. The stem (?) is floppy and the leaves are really soft and kind of mushy. I will post a picture if I need to, but I wanted to go ahead and post so someone can tell me what I am doing wrong (I'm a bad plant mommy!)

Please help if you can. Thanks! Jennifer

Soil - dry, mosit, or wet?
How warm did it get and how long was it there?
Now it is night time what does it look like?

From what I am reading - I dont have this one myself, it likes some shade in the heat of the day. Might it have recieved too much sun?

Not sure, hope you can find an answer. Hope it recovers.

After poking around, it feels like the soil is really REALLY dry. I watered it pretty well but not too much. I also moved the plant further away from the window.

I will let everyone know what happens tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!

Bet you it is the dry soil, they tend to do that.

Mitch, the temperature got up to about 70 here today, and the window is privacy glass so it kind of filters the light. The window also faces south, so it shouldn't have had too much direct sunlight.

She still looks the same, but I just watered "her" about 20 minutes ago.

So light is good... fingers crossed the water works.

Thanks Mitch! I will follow up in the morning.

Sounds like it's just too dry. Mine dry out fairly frequently and go all pouty and wilty like that. Water should make it perk right back up.

Having said that, it's not good for them to go dry and wilt like that, but it won't kill them if it happens occasionally like it will some plants. I'm just too flighty to keep my stuff watered like I should. :oP

If it isn't showing signs of perking up in the morning, put it in a ziploc bag, put a clear jar or glass over it, just something to hold in some humidity. If you do that, don't leave it in the window, though - it could get too hot. By this time tomorrow night, I'm sure it will be fine. :o) Most Gessies are pretty tough plants.

RainGazer and Mitch,

I really am a bad plant mommy! She was just thirsty. I bought her from Logees who cautioned not to over water so I haven't been watering much. I drenched her last night and hardly any even drained out. She was bone dry! She looks so happy and healthy this morning. I am just glad I figured out what was wrong, even though I feel like a moron for letting it happen. I had her in a window with a Lipstick Plant and a cactus, and they don't take much water.

OOOOH I'm so happy to hear "she" perked up for you :)
I have just the opposite problem. I tend to think ALL my plants are thirsty every day *lol*
Kohleria (in my experience) seem to be quite willing to survive :)

So glad to hear she's on the mend :)
