Do you want another clematis or another plant? Caladiums are nice for shade. Keep an eye out for Co-ops and Classified Ads by Bill, Caladiums4less. He should have a May or June sale or co-op.

While it doesn't add bright color per se, Silver Moon does brighten a shady spot and it is the best performer of the clematis I have in semi-shade. It did have a great start though, being a Silver Star Vinery plant. It was absolutely huge when it was sent to me.

jess: You may want to do a search in this forum and in PlantFiles on Sweet Autumn Clematis. We've had many discussions about this very invasive variety.

As for Clematis that are well adapted to growing in shade, here's a link that will give you various ones that thrive in shady locations. http://www.chalkhillclematis.com/nursery_shop/partialshade.htm

I have a Betty Corning Clematis in virtual early morning sun Northern exposure, and I must say it puts on a continuous show from late Spring thru Fall without stopping. It is a delightful plant with loads of blooms and a show stopper for everyone that sees it. It is many years old and never ceases to amaze me. My Sweet Autumn had minimal bloom in semi-shade, but did much better in more sun. The viticellas seem to do well in semi-shade and put on a wonderful blooming show. Hope I helped.

Claire de Lune is also supposedly a shade lover. I have it, but it's a baby and hasn't bloomed yet, so I can't really say if it's truly performing in the shade or not.

Mine does well in the shade, too. It gets only a little of the latest sun of the day.

Jess,
Why don't you check with Debbie at Silver Star Vinery, as mentioned. I sent Debbie pictures of areas I wanted clematis or something that would grow in these areas. After she knew the light conditions, soils, and colors she was able to suggest several. And she considered the height I wanted to accomplish. She's great about answering emails too.

If you look at another thread on this Clematis forum you can see pictures I posted of plants I recently received from her. She sent out another 6 to me today. Give her a call and I'm sure you'll be pleased. Great Customer service.

I need some suggestions for a friend for clematis that do well in the shade also but only Groups A or C ( group B which is what most of the suggestions are here dont do well here) Betty Corning iseems to be the only possibility of what has been suggested here.
