Here is part of my vegie garden...
The front row has long beans and green beans, in the back you can see other pots with Snow Peas, Eggplants and BokChoi. In another pot I am growing Tatsoi...a tomatoe in a hanging pot.
Looks like one bottom pot is going to collapse...will have to brace it up. It really works well...I don't have to bend over and the soil gets nice and warm.
Now, if it would only rain!!!

Vegetable Garden for the NO SOIL/OLD BACK
What time should I be there for diner? Looks good Carol, did I miss the hanging tomato though?
Gosh, I hope my red jade will look like that, it's gorgeous. Does it only bloom in the Spring time here? Mine is still in a pot waiting for the kids to get here in the begining of April to help me build a trellis along the side of the house. Lovely photo!
Blooms on old 1 year old wood. It definitely needs a trellis - NOT made of wood or PVc - which the vine will crush. USE Galvanized Steel pipes. Take it from a learner!!!! Do it quickly!!! or keep all dogs, mothers and large trees away from it!!!!
:>)
Lol! 4X4's aren't strong enough, oh my word what have I got myself into! It's already swinging wildly around looking for something to latch on to, better tell Mom not to stand still anywhere near it. Steel pipes are another whole kettle of fish, wonder if I can get them at HD.
Thanks for the heads-up!
Sniff, sniff, no sprout on my Abiu yet...
Yes...you CAN get them at HD!! And do keep Margaret away...she would be swept away!!!
Well...perhaps 4x4s would be OK there...they won't rot with all the rain and they ARE sturdy. Go for it. Just be careful to keep it trained (read CUT) back...it won't bloom on the new growth and that new growth just reaches out for anything to climb on. I saw one that toppled (yes, toppled) a HUGE 30 year old Banyan Ficus at the Onomea Gardens....) You can see the flowers better, anyway!!!
Will look for an Abiu for you, Jen...
i am off to the mainland to play with grandkids....
A hui hou,
Carol
Thanks for the info Carol, I will keep Mom away - she is only a little thing!
Have fun on the Mainland, travel safely and enjoy those grandkids.
hahahaha. Same reason here...old gardener. Rained so hard it washed the seed of the snow pea and pole beans all over everywhere. Have trailing nasturtium planted all along the inside edge both for salad and to cover the ugly outside. 27 degrees Friday night burned the seedlings to the ground. Ah the challenges of gardening. Love how you have developed a "where there is a will, there is a way" veggie garden.
Love ya,
Christi
Hey Christi, Sorry to hear you got washed out. Your new bed looks fantastic, is it where the trees were taken out? I have just bought some seed of nasturtium (sp?) does it do well for you in the heat, or is it just a spring flower? I have seen it growing wild up country, but I have never seen any down here by the ocean so I am wondering if it is too consistantly warm in my garden.
Missed you being around lately - love to Mike
Good morning. I have had good luck with it in the past. Almost everything in our area is over by July 1st or before so can't really help you. Except we have 100+ by then and your temps stay moderate. I sometimes plant both styles, bush and trailing. Pulling everything out of the barn today into the sunshine. Supposed to be 70-80 degrees through Saturday. The week before Easter is always tricky. Since last Thursday we have had everything weatherwise that is possible. Have changed my desktop to the ocean with the whales. Wonderful memories.
Mahalo, mahalo,
Kilikina
Great job Carol!
I'm thinking of leaving things where there are until after Easter. Surely by April 1 it will be warm steadily. Safe from anymore freezes!
Usually by March 17 it is safe, but with all of the snow up North I'm still a little leary that we could have a late freeze.
Plus, DS got my flu, so he is out of commission for a couple of more days.....
I'm clinging to the scripture Eccles. 3. Trying to be patient, and get well at the same time.
Aloha and Yokwe Y'all!
