I got my babies today from mcmurray. 2 l/2 dead so far LOL. one is really sick. The other drowned in the water dish. one dead on arrival. Pretty good for 39 chicks
I had them in the tub for a while, till I made sure they were eating and drinking ok, now their in their new home .

here they are in their new home, we converted an old dog pen to a chicken pen, each row has it's own house, and we turned this house into a brood area for baby chicks. later we can open the back door and let them run down the dog run.
I got 9 diff pullet varieties and 9 diff roosters to go with the pullets. they gave me 2 free males that were named varieties. I have no idea which ones I lost.
I have some cockoo marans and welsummers coming on the 21st but they are local. So I hope I have enough hens and dont' have to clear out the roosters , I got one rooster for each set of pullets so I could separate and incubate my own eggs next time.
This was very expensive. buying on line. Its expensive enough to buy them locally. but at least you don't have to pay for the shipping.
Congrats! Chicks are a lot of work, but as cute as can be! I always put marbles or something in their water dish so they don't drown. Good luck with your babies!

Thanks! I used those flat ones you use in vases last year, this year I had to use these plastic beads I use in making parrot toys. You can see them in the back of the pic. I have noticed chicks fall asleep doing everything, eating, drinking walking LOL
true, they do, drop dead so to speak in their tracks. energy doesn't last long does it LOL
Hi, I also got chicks saturday march,8,2008 from tracyor supply total of five, not bad prices only $ 1.54 a piece I got 2 rhode island reds and 3 white mixed varieties all straight run so i hope i get 1-2 roos and 3 or 4 hens. Im gonna build 2 smallish mediumish chicken coops, 1 for them and 1 for some other chickens I,m getting this spring. The next will be my all time favorite lovable ones, SILKIES!
Congrats on your babies Chickenboy! Someone called them dropping like that they were doing the Rubber chicken. Has anyone else noticed that chicks look like their eyes are open when they are closed because their are no feathers on the lower lids?? Weird.
