If you hard boiled eggs, how long before you would discard them?
egg question
Cuckoogirl, if I hard boil eggs, they wouldn't last long enough to even consider that question. They would be gone within a couple of days. :o))
If refridgerated, up to a week
Thank you J.
And Granny........i had boiled 2 doz and i was the only one eating them. Hubby said he wanted them and he never ate one single egg.
If something dont jump out of the fridge and hit him in the face, he wont see it i swear. So i mutilated the rest and will feed them back to the flock now. They will be happy anyway :)
Cuckoogirl, did you ever eat a pickled egg? DH just reminded me about them. They take about a week or two to really pickle. Then they will keep for about a month. So, the next time you boil some try doing that. The recipe I like best is from the "Better Homes and Gardens" cookbook. (I think). Hubby might remember to eat them if he tries them. LOL
The easiest way to make great pickled eggs is to get a gar of pickled beets and toss peeled eggs in, I have also used the juice for the "sweet-hots" jar and they are even better!
Jyl, the beet juice recipe is the one I use.
What do you mean by the juice from the "sweet-hots"? They sound good. I haven't tried them. I like to put pickled eggs on salad greens. YUM!!!
Sweet- hots are a comercial pickle that I get at the store. They have slices of hot banana pepper in with regular semi- sweet pickles. They are wonderful. Bread and butter pickle juice makes good eggs too.
Thanks, Jyl, I am going to see if we can get them around here. If not, a good excuse to come up to TC. (But of course not till spring).
Granny, i have never had a pickled egg before. I think it just seemed like a yucky thing when i was a kid. so these are supposed to be good then? I might give it a try :)
I use all my banty eggs for pickled eggs. They are the perfect size to pop in your mouth.
Thats what i like to do.....i use bantam eggs for boiling too.....so i think i will try this pickled egg thing you all speak of. If i live, i will share my thoughts on pickled eggs at a later date.....thanks......i think.
Cuckoogirl, do you eat eggplant? That is one thing I can't stand. I tried it a few times, and just couldn't handle it again. So, you would have to try it and we'll see.
OMG Granny..... I LOVE EGGPLANT!!!!!!! I think it is a very ugly food, but i love it. I really will eat most anything. I have never tried sushi......dont know if i would/could. The only confirmed food i HATE....is liver. There is just nothing that has/can be done to it to make me like it. I remember when i was a kid and my mom's boyfriend actually took his belt off to scare me into eating it trying to impress my mother. I told him to go ahead and hit me.....i was NOT eating it ......LMAO!!!! Can you see a guy doing that TODAY!!!!! hehe
As for the pickled eggs...... i guess i really never knew what it meant to pickle and egg. I love pickles and i love eggs....so i dont really know why i never tried one. Maybe because it seemed wierd to get an egg from a jar of liquid. I"m curious now though :)
Good. I figured you would like eggplant. Most people do. Jyl, I never thought about using banty eggs for anything. But they would be just the right size for pickling. Of course I don't have bantams, and not going to get them. So, I will just have to use regular size ones.
Just thought of something. Imagine having a bar party and taking pickled banty eggs. Make some rosy, some green, and leave some white. Can you picture folks expressions when they saw them?
I now know what everyone is getting for Christmas this year!
Pretty colorful jars of pickled banty eggs.. (as long as the babies are laying by then)
