to much snow

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I am just south of ottawa I have a snow drift in the front of my house that is over 7 feet tall and last night it was so bad even the dog did not want to go out, we also had thunder and lightning with zero visibility with the snow gust of winds of over 60 kil. per hour man it was nasty and they are saying 7 more snow days in the next two weeks, is it ever going to end lol

Oh MY....LOL...sorry not laughing at you just with you. I miss those blizzards and snow storms and did live in Ontario until about 5 yrs ago, so I certainly understand what you talking about....hang in there, pretty soon you will be complaining of the humidity and heat...stay warm!

What kind of gardening do you normally enjoy...anything with brugs, ornamental grasses or containers. I need help with all of these..so if your bored and have any knowledge Id be happy to correspond.

After much of the east and central Canada having such a winter like this, I wouldn't be surprised to see a mass move out west. You have my respect, I'm such a wimp in winter weather. I did spend my first 1o years in Ont, 3 years above the arctic circle and 6 years near Fredericton NB so I have experienced winters. Been there, done that, not doing it again!

suburb of Toronto, ON(Zone 5b)

I must admit that, pretty as it is at times, I'm ready to see the back of winter! We had in the range of 14-16" from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. Anyone want to join me on my patio?

Heh DB...I used to live in Guelph..and remember lotsa storms there...and as stated before kinda miss those days. We dont get that here at all. Lotsa rain sometimes, but it hasnt been that bad here lately and is very mild. I was out today and saw lotsa people just wearing shorts/tshirts...and when I was out didnt need a jacket at all...sorry, not trying to rub it in...I still have plenty of friends there and they always tell me how much they hate the winter...send me some snow okay...lol

scicciarella - Welcome to DG. Hope you enjoy it here.

I know what you mean by the snow, being in east-end Ottawa.

When your snow melts, what do you like to grow?

Gosh, hate to say it everyone, but Ive been outside all day long. I visited a few garden centres in my jeans/tshirt...no jacket needed...sorry not trying to rub it in...but a glorious day here today. Im still kinda a novice, but bought lotsa stuff and even planted some seeds in the peat pods from Home Depot.

I used to live in Ontario, so really understand your weather stuff and kinda miss it actually. I guess everyone misses home when your not there. Stay warm and send some snow here okay.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

You know, I was born and raised in rural Ontario, but spent 2 1/2 years on Vancouver Island and a couple of months in New Westminster. I most certainly never missed the winters of Ontario, but I have always missed the mountains of B.C. - and the island's climate - ever since moving back here many, many years ago.

I teach in Idaho 20 miles south of Creston, BC and live 40 miles south of that. I'm imagining that much of the Canadian gardening advice will help me more that Pacific Northwest or Rocky Mountain. I'm wondering if the snow will all be melted by July there is so much this year

Hi debrajdouglas

Creston gets very hot and humid in the summer and dont be surprised if it starts warming up there soon. Your probably right about the Canadian garden forum as compared to the others that you had mentioned, but Im sure all of them have great advice....what a lovely picture by the way.
