There's a tree that's in bloom here in East Texas that has pale pink blooms, almost tulip like. The flowers are big. I'd love to have one but don't know the name. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?
Need the name of a tree that's blooming now...
Does it look something like this?

I think there are a lot of different varieties. I don't grow it but they are blooming around town.
Debbie
That's the one! Thank you for posting. I never noticed them until we moved here a few years ago. I think they're so pretty. Actually anything blooming this time of year seems pretty to me. I've really got "spring fever" bad. I went to Lowe's today and took advantage of their plants that got nipped by the cold the other night. I am so ready to get in the garden.
That's just one of many varieties--look through the plantfiles.
=)
Yeah, magnolia should do well there.
You're like me, you notice a new plant then all the sudden they're everywhere you look! This year it was Yaupon hollies for me. I remember the first year I noticed Indian Hawthorn it drove me crazy that they were everywhere and I'd never noticed them before. One year it was Mountain Laurel and now I have three beautiful ones!
Tyler is full of Magnolia's I see them everyday on my way to work and on my bus route...I think they are lovely and would like to have one too but not gonna push it yet still need to get a few things in order before I figure out where I would put it
And I never think of the flowering quince until spring and it "flowers"... then, I see it everywhere. LOL
What does the quince look like? I might have to have it too!
I looked them up in the plant files. I probably thought they were camillia's.
They are only a shrub usually 4-5 feet tall. They seem to burst out in bloom with no leaves on them in early spring. When the blooms drop, the shrub just looks like a bush! LOL Pretty while it lasts.
Another one I love in springtime in the forsythia. The shrub that has long arching branches sprinkled liberally with yellow blooms.
The tree you asked about is commonly called a tulip tree here. Very pretty, I agree.
oh do Tulip trees grow down here? we had one in our back yard when I was a kid and it wasn't until I moved away it finally started blooming...
Shirley do they offer the plants at a lower price at Lowes when they get hit by the cold????...
Lowe's always has reduced plants. I rarely ever buy anything for full price. Today they had calla lillies, evening primrose, lantana and lots of shrubs like yopon holly for 50% off. They had the weeping holly too. I'm not sure why the shrubs were reduced as they looked fine to me. I just took a few leaves off the others and they look real good. I always get good deals at Lowe's.
ooooooooooo calla lilies I have to go there tomorrow and see if they still have any left and see what shrubs they have too...50% is good I love sales only way to buy
Jerry, your quince photo is lovely. Am I wrong? Are the leaves out when they start blooming? I may be thinking of another plant... pod
Maybe japonica?
Could be, I'll check into it. What the "natives" call plants is far removed from the true name. 8 )
Chaenomeles japonica--Japanese Flowering Quince Japonica it is... The photos in the PlantFiles just show a closeup of the bloom or some leaf growth but it burst forth in hot pink blooms before the green up begins...
Don't have but it is one of my favorite spring beauties. As is the mock orange and don't know what its real name is. Beautiful yellow.
I noticed a quince today, now that I know what to look for. Very beautiful color plant. I'm on a mission now for the tulip tree.
I got a tulip tree today! Lowe's had just gotten a shipment of trees in and they had two of them. Thanks for letting me know what to look for. Hope to get it planted tomorrow.
Congratulations! Looking forward to photos of your blooms next spring! LOL
