How to sterilize a terracotta pot?

Nipomo, CA(Zone 8a)

Hello all!
I want to clean out my pots, how can I get them clean without leaving a residue that may hurt the plants going into them. Does anyone have a cleaner they prefer?
Does that make sense?
Thanks

Use a stiff brush to get out any soil then soak them all in a bleach bath, rinse well and let them dry. If any residue is stuck use either an old toothbrush or a scrubbie to get rid of it.

That's what I would suggest as well.

10 parts water: 1 part household bleach and the quick scrub Pirl suggested. The bleach solution degrades quickly, so don't use it in the sun, and don't try to save it for the next day's use.

Great! Thanks guys, that was what I was thinking of using. I didn't know if the bleach would have a residue. Al, what do you mean that the bleach solution degrades quickly?

It loses its power.

I totally agree with all recommendations as above. I would scrub the pot clean then soak it in the mentioned 1:10 chlorine solution for ten mins. (to be sure they kill all microrganisms that maybe dwelling in the pot).
