banana musa id

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Last year the landscaper planted two banana trees as ornamentals. Is there a way to determine what "kind" they are? Right now they are paper sticks from the freeze but I can see the green along the "trunk". Few days of spring and they will come back.

Thank you for your help.

This is the one in the front. The one in the back is much larger...gets more sun.

LouC, I think that your banana could be a Musa Basjoo, I'm not 100% sure. Let's hope someone with more experience answers soon.

LouC, Rita, It looks like mine, that i got from Texas Palm at Farmers market. He gets them from South Texas. Jerry

Basjoo was my first thought when I saw them in person but just could not be sure. There is a man not too far downt he road from me with a musa he gets fruit from, small fruit and not every year but fruit all the same - I keep trying to get a pup of that one to see what it is too...

I told you to get one of these pups. Offer still holds. After looking at all the possible "musa"...what a silly question.
