I started a thread about this topic on the Wildlife Gardening Forum, and somebody made the good suggestion, to post here also.
I'd seen a documentary on PBS about how it seems Red Knots are being imperiled because there are many fewer horseshoe crab eggs which they depend upon for gaining weight for their migration. This show and some things I've read indicated the use of horseshoe crabs as bait by fishermen is believed by many to be a large part of the problem. I received an alert from Audubon requesting support to protect the horseshoe crabs.
I'm passing along a link for any NJ residents interested, who would like to make a phone call, or send an email or letter.
I will warn you though, I’ve heard from 2 people that they had problems when submitting their emails through the site, so if you work on personalizing what you send, you probably should save what you’ve written somewhere before submitting, and be prepared to fill out the submission form again in necessary. One of those people has let Audubon know about the site problems.

Somebody on the other thread, supplied a link with more information from Audubon about what is going on with Red Knots in general, which includes work by some to get them protected under the Endangered Species Act

Protecting Red Knots & NJ Senate has a bill coming up soon
Thanks Lori!!
