It sure would be nice to make a little extra cash for the rising cost of living. Down here we have lots of flea markets every weekend, and I wonder if I brought, lets say 100-200 vegetable plants in 3 to 5 inch pots to sell at a flea market, #1 would they sell and #2 for how much? Anybody out there doing this either for a few extra dollars or for a living?

making extra money selling seedlings
Figure out what it cost you to plant it and at least double it or go to your local home depot or lowes or the like and see their price. Most people know what they go for and will not want to pay more but 50 cents or so difference should not matter if you find you need to go higher. I knoe at walmart tomato plants are 3.. At lowes they are 1.18 for celebrity and the big beef are 2.99. Deanna
You would need to carve out a niche. Find a place where gardeners gather like at a local farmers market. Price your seedlings at least twenty to thirty percent more then the root bound crap at the local HD. Up sell root stimulator/compost/ some of that beneficial bacteria they are always pushing at my local GH. I don't think you will see much profit on just the seedlings.
I would also try for varieties you can't usually find at the big boxes. You'll get people who want to try something different and are willing to pay for the fun of an experiment. Also, I would make sure they know what to expect in terms of size, shape, flavor, usage, etc. Educate as well as nourish!
Good luck!
I am always willing to pay more for a single healthy plant rather than being forced to buy them in a six-pack. Sometimes I don't want to plant that many of the same kind, especially if I'm just want to see how they do for me and whether I like the taste of them.
Thanks everyone!!!! Keep the comments and ideas coming-------

Good Luck If you have a local farmers market where it's open to individuals selling you might try there. We do not have one so don't know about their pricing. deanna
BocaBob,
There is a whole forum for market growers here on DG. Many of them do exactly what you are asking. I'm sure they'd have good answers.
