Folklore & Uses of various sages
Thanks! I keep forgetting to check the salvia forum. Nice to learn more about them.
I eat Salvia hispanica seeds as a nutritional supplement (full of antioxidants) and other good stuff.
The package says 8x more omega3 than salmon
6x calcium than milk
15x more mag. than broccoli
more fiber than flax
more protein than soy
Gardengus, that's amazing. How do you eat them, just munch, throw them on salads or recipes? I know a lot of seeds are full of essential nutrients and most people are unaware (including me, i just leaned THIS) ~of it...it's a great supplement as opposed to expensive vitamins. Do you get the Salvia H. seeds at a store or on-line?

yes please elaborate gus ,I'm really interested now, if you grow and collect seeds explain how please
I grow as organic as possible, and have a tendancy to munch on my sage leaves while working....do the salvia seeds taste similar but, maybe nutty, as well? I know hemp seeds do, got those at Sunflower Market,as well as hemp milk, which was like a creamy nutty flavored cream, not like half n half cream, tho'....crazy!

Sorry for the delay in response , been away.
My Mom gave me the seeds, for my daughter (vegetarian) Mom is always finding good nutritious things . She said they were pricey but not more than vitamins.
I just mix them in some applesauce or yogurt .
The seeds look like poppy seeds and have no flavor that I can taste.
The package says:Consume whole or grind in coffee grinder,Add to cereals ,shakes, ,smoothies, yogurt,or baking mixes.
Gel:soak 2 T. ground seed in 1/2 c. cold water ,stir and refrigerate.
use 1/4 c. gel as egg replacement in recipes or to thicken gravy or soup, add to pudding.
My daughter uses hemp milk on her cereal.
Question how do they milk a hemp?
I am going to try to germinate some of this seed, but I have no idea if it has been treated in any way or how old it is. Will let you know what happens.
I looked the plant up and the flowers are rather insignificant looking compared to most salvias.
Says it grows wild in South America, and people there use it as a nutritional supplement.
Hemp milk is basically nut milk or like soy milk. I've even seen hemp tofu sold in health food stores. The seed oil is rich in the omega fatty acids, also but is very expensive.
