there is a soft mushy lump the size of a large golf ball probaly bigger on the breast of my chicken i was wondering if anyone knows wat it is
sick chook need help
Is it his/ her crop? check it in awhile and see if it has gone down, that means its digesting its food. I will look around for a diagram for you just in case it isn't.
Sounds like the crop. Sometimes you can move the feathers enough and even see the food inside of it. The skin stretches thin over it. Does it have a lumpy feeling inside like pieces of the food? If it is just mushy like a water balloon she may have just been drinking a lot of water. Some of ours sometimes feel like its off to one side even.
Hopefully its nothing more than that.
it is now bigger and all the feathers have fallen out that was covering it could it be a fatty lump or a tumor or cancer
O.k. what kind of chicken is this? What breed? Some breeds will develop what is called a breast blister. It has something to do with their diet is what I have been told.
it is a black sex-link and it was just broody and now has a chick if that means anything
Hmmm Let me call my brother and ask him. He studied all sorts of stuff on organic chicken farming so he may have a solution. I'll let you know what he says.
Well the breast blister is something that Cornich Cross Rocks tend to get. The only thing he could come up with on yours is possibly that it was stung by something or it could be a genetic default and has grown as she has grown. Unless she shows signs of being sick, like drooping tail, pale comb or eye color not bright then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Does she seem to act normal otherwise?
yep perfectly fine in all ways thank you for the information
