Texas Nurseries

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Hi all, my plant friend and I are planning a pilgrimmage to Marshall Pottery in Marshall, Tx. Can anyone tell us the names (& locations) of some good nurseries in the area? We used to love going to JD's but they are no longer there--we are willing to venture out 50 miles or so further than Marshall in search of neat plant shopping. Hope y'all can help!

Can't tell you the name of the nursery, but there is one right down the road from Marshall's Pottery. They had great plants and garden art too.

Tyler has some great nurseries. I don't think it's very far, maybe an hour. Lots of roses!

Pleezzzzz....let me know what great pots you get at Marshall's. I went a few yrs ago during a Master Gradeners' conf. and bought a truck load. 'Made my husband take me back the next spring and came home with another truck full. It's time to go again!

Oh yes-- A friend took me to Marshall for the first time about 14 years ago. I used to go once or twice a year--but I lived closer then. My favorite trip-- I brought 136 terra cotta pots home in my Nissan Sentra--and spent only $32. Couldn't scoot the seat back--good thing I am short-LOL!! The deals aren't quite that good nowadays--but still worth the trip--8hrs 1 way these days. My plant buddy and my birthdays are within a few days of each other so we like to do a birthday road/plant trip every year. She and I haven't been to marshall in 3 yrs. DH and I were there last spring, it was sooo hot we left the car running to keep the chihuahuas cool--we had just got this little car--didn't realize there was no auto-window lock--they paged us when our male let himself out and was cruising the parking lot. Didn't really get to shop as thoroughly as I would have liked to! Really hope to take the truck--since my pot needs are of the larger sizes these days. I really hate that JD's is no longer across the street--I always came home with great plants from there! I am sure there are neat nurseries around--but we're not local so they are harder to find. We will put Tyler on our agenda--thanks for the tip!! I noticed there are a lot of nurseries in Shreveport so may have to check out the LA angle too.

You may want to check out the Forest Hills thread in the Mid-south forum. They're planning a "nursery crawl" thru the area next weekend. There's literally 100's of nurseries in the area. They have a link to the area nurseries and a link to a huge sale next weekend. I wish we were closer, I'd love to go. If you're heading toward Shreveport...you might as well check their map!

Will do--thanks!!

Note sure when you are planning the trip or what he may have this early but...Aubry King at King's nursery is a neat one to visit. King's Nursery is in Tenaha Texas, just south of Carthage which is south on Hwy 59 from Marshall. This is a several generation grower. He does a lot with Stephen F. Austin University. Lots of different things there.

ooooh!!! I'll put that on the list--we are not actually going right away--just trying to get an itinerary together. We want to go by first of May before it gets too hot here, I know it will already be hot there. Am thinking now about doing a loop thru Louisiana and back up through Texas. My DIL is in Deridder LA while my son is in Iraq--I need to take her some tables anyway. good place to spend the first night (free)!
