I just moved from a 100 year old home with beautiful old oak trees and old gardens (sigh). I now have a new home on six acres with hedges, 2 hydrangeas and a rose bush. Boy do I have a lot of work to do! What a year to start, drought and of course I have good ole georgia red clay and a billion ant hills! I'll be doing container gardening this year since I had rotator cuff surgery recently. I am looking forward to learning from all of you. Just joined last week.
Hi Ya'll Newbie from Thomson Georgia
Hi Shydove,
I’m new here too, and just wanted to say hello. I have a tiny yard, and can’t imagine having 6 acres to work on…wow! I’ve done the container garden thing for years now. We finally moved into a place that has actual ground to plant in last summer, but we are still going to be growing all our veggies in pots. What kind of plants are you going to grow in your container garden?
Hi Shydove ! Welcome ! Sounds like you have alot of challenging work ahead! I wish you the best!
Hi Everyone, Im also new here and very interested in container gardening. Ive recently purchased a variety of morning glories, climbing spinach, bee balm and scarlett runner beans. Im not sure if its too early to start them yet or not. I was wondering about ornamental grasses and how they would do in containers..any ideas? Look forward to hearing from you.
Shydove, forgot to ask..where is Thomson?? I used to live in Decater..you must miss that old house as well..thats my dream to have something like that one day.
I’m sorry I can’t answer your questions, but just wanted to say “Welcome Sydney!” You might try posting in the container gardening forum. It looks like there are a bunch of very knowledgeable people over there.
Welcome to Dave's, I am certain you will like it here. If your ever in the Coleus Forum drop by and say hi!
Welcome, shydove!
I'll bet you really miss your old garden. It's got to be very hard to leave something like that behind. But starting up a new garden, even though it's a lot of work, is such a great adventure, too. There's something so irresistible about a blank slate!
Hi welcome. Lots going on here at Dave's.
Hello welcome to Dave's Cindy
Thomson is near Augusta Sydney480. I lived in Tucker many years ago. I have started my containers, apparently too soon. We had frost 2days ago. I am trying to pick deer resisitant plants. They have already feasted on my tree roses! I also want to make my own containers. I have found a recipe that is light weight and looks and feels like natural stone when finished. I am buying the supplies this week end. Then I will have to decide what to put in them. I have lots of birds coming to my feeders and I want plants to attract more. I am looking for purple blooms now; thumbell blue campanula, purlecious veronica and blue bedder mealycup sage. My list keeps growing.
Heh again shydove...now I know the general area of Thomson..very nice there. How do you deal with that darned red clay in Georgia???? I tried and tried over and over again..it was ugly there for sure, where I was anyways. I had a heck of a time and only had luck with shade stuff, as my house was covered with large trees and then moved to Vancouver..oh well. I really miss living in the south and sure got some great recipes for cornbread!
a belated welcome from upstate new yuork
Welcome shydove from the deep south of Ga. I am just about 15 miles from the Florida line. This is a wonderful group of people who love gardening and life in general. They will help you and guide you in every thing you ask, so ask away. Elaine
