Going through the online catalogue of Solana Seeds must be like an addiction... before I knew it, I racked up a list of a dozen varieties I wanted to taste, and not enough space to plant them. One or two of each, and the rest go to my choir's flea market, last year over forty! They are so easy to germinate, and many are early, a major advantage here. I like Stupice, an old Czech strain with a rich flavour but tender flesh. This year I'm also trying their Greek heirloom, thessaloniki. Has anyone tried these varieties in Canada? I've seen some reports on the DG Tomaotes forum, most are American.
Can't resist heirloom tomatoes
I hear ya andycdn. I have about 40 heirloom seedlings rights now (plus 20 hybrid) and only have room for 12-16 LOL. Stupice does really well here. There are a couple of DG members who grow it. We have a GREAT local seed supplier for heirlooms who ships so you might check Jeff's catalogue out IF YOU DARE!:)

I did dare, and was astonished at the range of seed and the quality of the written descriptions. Made my mouth water for a tomato sangwich of each variety!
I might just be sending Jeff a cheque soon.
Hi guys
Just reading this thread and thought you may want to know that Sunday the16 of march is Seedy Sunday in Edmonton at the North Glenora Community Hall it will be 11-6. It's a seed show and info exchange thing. They have 3 speakers set up and one is Jim Ternier who will speak to "saving Heirloom tomato seeds" at noon.
They will have vendors and last year I got some great grass seeds from a local person. If you are interested there is a contact person Pam at pcoco@telusplanet.net
If you happen to be here in Edmonton check it out .

Seedy Saturday is Saturday March 15th here. Jeff (Casey's Heirloom Tomatos) has a booth and is bringing lots of seed and seedlings. I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE!!! (ya right, I'm doomed)
Yes, and well, I'll be there to take notes on how well you do with NOT buying seeds dahlianut. ;p
Of course, I'll just be looking, not buying, myself....LOL.
Andrew - do you grow those at your condo or your cottage? I don't need another addiction; so I'll try not to take much of a look, but ....
How's your snow? I put pics up on SmugMug - at

A good four feet in my back garden, Ann... barely room enough to let Zoë out for a pee! Good insulation for our hosta project at the Bronson Centre, though.
I grow a few tomato plants in containers at home, but most at the family cottage. Problem there is I don't make it up every week to care for them -- watering, fetilizing, staking, pruning, even harvesting.
I hope David Currie is recovering well. Meantime, I have just been awarded the position of OCS Choir Administrator (paid!) and will be developing stronger links between arts organizations in the city as part of my job. I hope our connection with the OSO will flourish!
That would be nice. OSO, OCO collaborations are always fun? Is there anything on tap for next year. Might be my last year in OSO depending on the chosen repertoire for the next year. Gonna retire and concentrate on just one orchestra. Dunno about David C. They treat us like mushrooms.

I've been pushing for Parry's Hymnus Paradisi, which Matthew backs solidly, and for another performance of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast, a real spectacle for both choir and orchestra. Pardon for the off-topic msg.
