You know it's time for spring when…

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

… half of your yard is ice, the other half covered with 2 " of BOSS seed hulls.
…you're researching warm-weather retirement spots and you are only 45 years old.
…you've looked up air fare and directions to Angele's house in New Mexico, because she's got fruit trees blooming!
… you've purchased your 10th bottle of cough syrup and 3rd box of kleenex in a week and the neighbors can smell your Vicks way over at their house.
…you've had a serious talk with the Juncos; "Really guys, I love you, but time to head north and take the weather with you."

Love this idea for a thread Mrs Ed! I'll put the tea/coffee on! I used to live in upstate New York many years ago. & remember the long seeming endless wait for Spring to come.
This apricot tree is the first thing to bloom in my yard. Blossoms opened Feb 29 this year. :-) Pretty huh!

It fels good out today. I was seeing a hundred goldfinch at a time; now I only see twenty. I guess the others have started north. Now they mainly are eating the thistle.

Finally--a pair of WBNuthatches today instead of just one at a time.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow Grandmaggie! that's great. I suppose I might have some of that stuff if my whole back yard wasn't one sheet of ice. Supposed to warm up next week though so i can see what I have. You can always count on the chives to green up soon.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Your green thumps is itching to work the ground. So you decide to start, your seeds inside, way to early, when you know, you still got over 4' of snow on the ground.
