I have a 10 year old Meyer lemon that produced very well after the second year planted. It produced for another 3 years then just quit. The last time I had lemons on it was in 2003. Today I discovered blooms all over it. It must be 10-12 ft tall. I continued to fertilize it when I fertilized all my other citrus and never overlooked it. I was really surprised. Has this happened to anyone else?

Citrus trees blooming
Susie, are you feeding your Meyer lemon citrus fertilizer? The micro-nutrients are very important. I've never had a blooming problem. Citrus trees don't exhibit continuous growth. They grow in spurts. Not all citrus trees bloom at the same time. It could be that it was getting fertilized at the wrong time for it's cycle. The fertilizer may have induced vegetative growth at the expense of bloom production.
I Think that this is an "aha" moment. Up until the past year I may have been giving it the wrong fertilizer. I have been feeding all my citrus the proper one. I think that I was just giving the wrong food to that one specific one. When I run out of fertilizer, I just apply what I have until I can get to town. I have been using citrus fertilizer for the past few years and have an abundance of fruit with the exception of that one tree. Do you have any experience with persimmon trees? I just purchased one and planted it last week. What kind of fertilizer do I use for that? In any event, I am glad to see blooms on my Meyer.

Persimmons are my favorite fruit!. I had two very productive trees back home. They produced so much fruit that I was able to dry some and have persimmons for a few months after the season ended. I hated to leave them when we moved. A Fuyu persimmon tree was among the first trees I planted when we moved here. I have to give my little persimmon credit. It survived my DH's lawn mower. LOL That is another story. I use Osmocote in spring. It lasts for several months. Any general fertilizer will do though. Even Miraclegrow. Just don't use grass fertilizer. Too much nitrogen. What variety persimmon did you buy?
Without going outside to look, I think it was Great wall or something wall. I don't remember.
I have never eaten a persimmon, but am willing to try. So far I am growing and producing Meyers lemons(3), Ruby red grapefruit(2),5 plums(3 bruce and 2 methley),3 pears(canning),1Republic of Orange, 1 kumquat,1 calamondin, 1 tangerine, 2 mandarins,2 peach,7 fig, 3 papayas. I really stay busy canning/preserving/juicing when each in season. Any extras I take to the local farmers market. To think I started out with that one Meyer lemon 10 years ago that I would have this many. ADDITIVE. Never had this much fruit in my younger years. I do have some small trees that I have grown from various seeds to do my own experimenting. Three of the seed trees are at least 7 years old but of course no fruit yet, if ever. I have the space so nothing wasted except my time.
Thanks a lot for your comment re:fertilizer.
