I know this gets discussed every once in a while.
I did a trade with someone in France.
they sent my seeds roughly 2-11-08 and i have yet to get them
I sent mine on 2-9-08, they got them on 2-15-08.
Last year I had no troubles getting seeds from Spain
but a trade from Canada -- those were confiscated.
generally, how long should it take from over seas? [i can't recall from last year ... though i still may have the DMails]
I got a DMail this morning asking if i got them -- and the person said they would send more at the end of the week if i havent received yet.
I'm thinking they are just "in the system" still -- hoping ole Chicago Customs does not take them too.
Suzy -- you may be more of an expert at this... any ideas?? anyone else??
TIA,
Terese

CLOSED: Trading over seas
Hi Terese,
Envies from The Netherlands usually take 7-10 days to arrive. Sometimes it's faster but I had also reports of envies that took 3 weeks or more to arrive. If your seeds got snatched, you'd received and empty envie with a note that customs took your seeds......
Seeds from Europe often enter the USA via New York, which is OK. Seeds from Canada often enter through Chicago, which is bad because seeds very often get confiscated there.
If your sending seeds to people in the European Union, you don't have to be worried. We're allowed to import seeds, as long as they're not for commercial use.
Nancy -- the seeds i sent got there just fine. The ones coming to me got confiscated.
Tunik -- I certainly HOPE they come thru NY.
I had actually forgotten about the seeds. DH and I were gone for 9 days -- and i had forgotten. Then i got the DM yesterday regarding the trade. I'm into the 4th week... hopefully they will come this week.
I have been sending daylily seeds to Canada for at least 10 years and have not had a single problem.
I state on the green form attached to the BE the type of seed and value.

Sending seeds OUT of the USA is not the problem. Getting them IN is trickier! Still, most of the times it works out well!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Terese!
I had an enve from Germany take over a month to get here so hold out hope. Unless you have gotten a letter form APHIS saying they have been disposed of you should get them sooner or later.
Caren
When the seeds from Canada were confiscated... i still got the original envelop but it was empty, with the exception of the slip of paper stating they were confiscated.
so -- i'm still holding out hope.
So far, the seeds I've sent to the US, were received, and I got my trade also. But, it did take 3 weeks for some, to get theirs.
Hi Terese,
I just saw this message. It is usually 7-8 days and that doesn't matter if it's South Africa, Northern Ireland or Australia. Tuink's from The Netherlands only took 5-6 days, but I still think a good solid week plus a day is about right.
Once having said that, you *will* get notification if yours were confiscated, so as long as you don't get that, I think you can say they are still enroute.
Suzy
Tcs, if all else fails, have the seeds sent to someone else that lives in a different state and then they can forward them on to you. Chicago customs are one of the worst.
I am happy to state..... I got the seeds today.
funny thing -- stamped on the front of the envelop must be the French version of "Priority Mail"
"Lettre Prioritaire"
guess that means.... "walk it across the pond"
just glad they got here.
"Lettre Prioritaire"

ROTFL
I just broke the slowness record: one envie from the USA took 7 weeks to get here. SEVEN, can you imagine?
Not even a snail would be that slow....
I still think T should give the workers chocolate, lol
Kathy
hey Kathy,
If we start bribing the workers, where will we all end up?
well, if you bribe ME with chocoate I will love you forever and ever ! I have traded with Canada with no problems with seeds going in or out. It's that %#$*# Chicago customs that gets them. I think we should send them an invitation to join Daves, and maybe they would get in on the fun and leave stuffies alone. lol!!
On the other hand, they may become as addicted as we are....
I sure hope they are not watching this tread.
