pic updates of my serama and showgirl peeps
Very NICE!!
So cute!!!
You know how to sex them that young???
thank you! i go by feather sexing as well as features and temperment so far i have yet to be wrong. when they get older i vent sex them to double check, sometimes with silkies and certain breeds it is very hard to tell when they hit a certain age for sure till they crow or lay. usually 2mths or younger i can tell.
Great looking chicks! I LOVE showgirls!
well thats cool!!
I just got my bantams, so tell me, the ones that run to my hand when I put it in their box is probably roos? they act like they are gonna attact my hand, and one even ran up and pecked my fingers, too funny!!
your babys are so cute!! do you handle them a lot as babys?
lol, me too i think they are my fav peeps to sit and watch they are so funny.
if they are just a few days old i go by feather sexing but it doesn't work on all breeds. usually the ones that go after my fingers pecking are boys but sometimes the girls do cause i have jewelry on. i could sit and watch peeps in the brooder all day they are a hoot!! thank you. yep that's why they r so tame as adults. i can sit and hold them on my lap for hours and they will just sit there while i preen their feathers and coo or go to sleep. the boys are really mellow and it makes for friendlier roos too.
Ah, silkiechick--I think the showgirls are lovely--I can imagine that a turken/silkie cross would have a wonderful temperament. How are they size wise? I breed tomatoes and we only do six backcrosses to get back to the recurrent parent--it sounds like chickens are a lot more complicated.
On sexing, I had noticed that the Welsummer that is turning into a roo was the one that was attacking everyone out of the box. He's not aggressive now, just bold. One of my two RIR is similarly bold--I hope it is just a phase. So far the thing that has convinced me the Welsummer is a boy is his size--huge with thick legs--and the dang comb--it is much more developed than any of the other's and is already turning red at the base. When you say the feathers--what exacly are you looking at?
Hope you are feeling better:-)
OK, due to the adorable nature of thes pictures, i was forced to pick up the last of the bantams fro the feed store, which included two whites with vaulted skulls, maybe silkies!
my boys were beside themselves when i came home last night, and couldn't stop playing with them, and it's all YOUR FAULT!!!
i will get pics later,
tf
