can't find hide format marks on Word doc

My son was playing around and made the Word docs have these backward Ps when I hit enter, and dots for a space bar hit- They drive me nuts.
I have looked everywhere but can't find anything to turn it off. Help says I have Show/Hide on toolbar but don't see that anywhere. Any help, please, please?
