Blue Morpho (Morpho menelaus)
What a gorgeous photo! I have never seen one in real life, but I have been to a botanical garden's butterfly exhibit here in Phoenix,AZ. I live in zone 9. I was wondering if you would be willing to let me download each of your Blue Morpho photographs. I am doing a painting that will show both sides of this butterfly in a star-shaped pattern:the metallic side will form a downward headed triangle, the patterned side, a triangle with an upward point. This is to represent the Chinese concept "Tai-Chi."
I don't know if you are familiar with the I Ching. It is the oldest form of divination,(at least that was ever recorded.) The I Ching is approximately 5000 years old. The Eight Sacred Symbols are all derived from Nature. These symbols squared,(8x8)=64 hexagrams are used to describe all the possible states of being/consciousness/reality we refer to as The Human Condition, as well as the constantly shifting energies of the Universe. The purpose of the I Ching, generally called, The Book Of Changes, is to help us get in harmony with this most pervasive of any quality of life, it's changeability. The ancient Chinese actually took on the task of studying the nature of change, itself. I am having difficulty just explaining the most basic aspects! A vast, elusive, but fascinating subject. At least to me.
I should probably just cut back to the chase--the Blue triangle symbolizes Heaven, the patterned side, Earth. Tai Chi translates into Peace because ," Heaven descends, Earth ascends, there is commingling and harmony."
As you can see, my painting is very spiritual in "nature" (couldn't resist!) I am hoping this will persuade you to grant me your permission. The photo of the blue side in particular will be REALLY HELPFUL. Foreshortening has always been difficult for me and I need to show these butterflies receeding in space and in a simulation of true flight. (Not flat and open.) I have been away from this painting for a while now, and I could really use some help getting back in the groove and getting my confidence up. It is so helpful to have an image as an inspiration for a jumping off point. Perhaps with your help, I'll be jumping soon. If you have any other photos of Morphos, or Painted Ladies, I would love to see them. Or maybe you know some other site or Butterfly Photographer whose work would be of interest to me based on what I have told you. Thank you and May The Goddess Bless You,

send me your private email and I will send two pics that are better of the Morpho and two of the Painted Lady. Please do not use copies of my images for printing etc. However I do not have a problem with you using as a subject for your painting.
