My First Order!!

Francestown, NH

Hi Everyone!
I've put in my first EVER order from Ideal Poultry due 4/2/08:

10 Buff Orpingtons
8 Barred Plymouth Rocks
6 NH Red
6 RI Red
4 Black Astralorp
4 Buckeye
4 RI White

So, what do y'all think? Please be honest!! Now all I have to do is get ready for them.

I loved my Buff Orpingtons--they were very gentle and friendly. My Australorp's were also lovely and quiet. Right now I have 2 RIR among others, and they seem flightier and bolder than the BO and Aussies--but very curious and lively. I am curious about the BPR and Buckeye. I think the main danger is getting agressive birds mixed in with more docile ones--but I think your list looks very compatible. Others here have had much more experience and I'm sure will give you good advice.

O My Catscan, I never thought of that!!! Are any of these agressive breeds? Anyone know? I thought I did my homework, but that's what you guys are for~Help?

hey homersmom...congrats on getting your chicks...i have the buff orpingtons and i love them...calm, gentle and great layers...the rhode island reds are much more flighty but are great layers as well...of the two breeds that i have i like the buffs the best...they are also so fat and fluffy...rir are leaner looking...good luck and enjoy..

Thank you! I just had this 'thing' for the buffs when I started researching, I knew they were for me! Love the pic!

you will be very pleased with the Buckeyes. not agressive, incredibly docile, friendly, make good pets... but mine could hold their own against the leghorns, so i doubt the RIs or BPRs will pick on them.

you will also like their pea combs...
