Thanks to everyone here I have lots of seedlings to play with. Thank you so much for supporting my habit!
I have started so many flats of seeds in here, some are warm by the fireplace to germinate, and some are under lights now. I have no idea where I am going to put all of these when I need to re plant them, lol! I have a ton of seeds outside in their winter sow homes also. I can't wait for spring.

LOOK AT MY BABIES!!
LOL guspuppy, Are you addicted too? You have nice little babies there.
I wintersowed another 6 big jugs today. Not much room left, to plant anything. It's just fun.
oh yes, I passed "addicted' about 12 flower beds ago, lol
YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!! WOW!!! Maybe I should've just sent all my seeds to you!!LOL
I am glad to see you post this. What all do you have started there? I was afraid it was too early to start most things. I've always been more of a veggie gardener, but have tons of flower seed, too. What can I start sowing now, without worrying about them becoming too leggy before it's time to plant out??
It's so nice to see all of your babies going strong!
well, to be honest it probobly is early but I just couldn't wait. I will deal with the plant overpopulation when it becomes a problem, lol! I think as long as you give them the light they need and pots to suite them they will be fine. I am using the Chamomile tea spray and H2O2 watering on and off on the babies that I have read about, just "in case" damp off is thinking about visiting. So far,,,,,so good. I have started a little bit of everything from Nasturtiums to Mimosa tree, lol!
this is the Mimosa tree seedling from the seed trade with Stacey
Should have just asked about mimosas what kind and what size do you want. LOL. They're invasive around here and grow every where. One of my neighbors has a huge tree and it has a great shape. To bad these are a problem around here.
Someone gave me 2 Mimosa seedlings at the end of last season, but they make it through the winter - bummer! Yours looks so cool!
Thanks for the info!
A friend of mine that lives close has a Mimosa tree next to her house, must be in the perfect location because it is 6 years old and looks wonderful. It blooms a beautiful pink flower. I hope I chose the correct spot when I put mine outside. Zone 5/6 with a lot of snow right now, lol.
Kathy
Lots of snow here, too, but that's ok. We haven't had much this year, and the nutrients will be much appreciated by Mother Earth!
Just to throw it out there, I started things too early last year and I was so stressed trying to keep everything alive, and then pressured to plant everything quickly, that this year I've decided to grit my teeth (and believe me, it's hard!) and just wait until the end of March to start any seeds. In Connecticut, the weather is just too iffy in early May. So I take my seeds out and look at them and heave a sigh and put them back. I need my hair, so I'll wait.
"So I take my seeds out and look at them and heave a sigh and put them back. I need my hair, so I'll wait."
heheh, I hear ya, I wish I had the self restraint. I am retired/disabled so I am home and it gives me something to do. I have lots of hair.

Not to show my ignorance too much, but why are some of the babies in bottles, guspuppy? Is it just to give them moisture and space to grow at the same time? No sun for the bottle-babies, I guess. How do you get them out of the bottle?
Which plants do you grow in the bottles? Do they go outside in the bottles, and you take them out after the frost ends?
the 2 litre plastic bottles are cut open and then put back together for the greenhouse. I am rooting rose canes in them. Imagine the dark part at the bottom of the pop bottle, cut around that for a guide, fill and put it back together.
Kathy
Thanks, Kathy. Is it just to maintain humidity?
yes, for humidity. This is my first year attempting to root rose canes, so far,, so good. I read all I could find on this and chose the pop bottle method, lol!
Oooo, that's a nifty idea to root rose canes. Do you use rooting hormone and put the cane in soil in the bottle? Do you see roots yet??
The canes are soaked for awhile to make sure they are hydrated, then stick the end I am going to plant into rooting hormone and put them in the starting mix. This is the first time doing this so I am no one to ask! lol, but there are new leaves.
Kathy
That's awsome! Where there's leaves, there's a world of possibilities.
Guspuppy, please share what you did and when with the rose cuttings! My daughter has been after me for several years to take cuttings off my mother's rose and I keep meaning to do so, but forget. Since I have containers for WS I haven't used yet, I figured I could use them. When did you do the cuttings? What size cutting did you make? What type of medium have you put them into? I have read lots about this but am still unsure. I noticed the other day there were some small leaves on some of the rose I want to take cutting from but didn't know for sure where to cut. Can you help? Thanks.
All of the info and help I got from the Rose forum. I am not sure if the cuttings have rooted, I don't want to mess with them yet, but they have put out new leaves. I used soiless seed starter which was recommended to me, 1/2 peat 1/2 perlite, and plain water. I am sorry, but that's about all I know of it, I am just learning, lol.
Kathy
Thanks. That helps. I'm going to try it. Maybe do a bit more reading and then try.
Ladies, please check out this site, I think it will help you a lot to propagate your roses :) http://scvrs.homestead.com/cuttings1.html Yes, I am a rose addict and enabler!! LOL
Thank you, that looks like a great site!
Kathy
Thanks for the link. I just read it. What I want to do is take some cuttings now and try to root them. Should I try to do this inside, under lights, with bottom heat OR outside in a container such as one would use for winter sowing, i.e. milk jug or pop bottle like guspuppy used? Any idea on which might be best? I suppose I could try both but really just want to do something that would generate some new plants. Thanks.
Shirley
Please don't anyone fuss at me about posting here. I just realized I probably should be on the rose forum asking this kind of stuff, but got caught up in the post from guspuppy. I don't want to be posting incorrectly on the wrong forum.

I'd try the bottle method, I've had good results using that. I haven't tired the heat mat, normally roses are pretty easy to propagate. I don't see that you've hijacked the thread. All this could lead to an exchange of cuttings. LOL
Thanks. Inside or outside?

LOL! It's ok, I don't mind sharing my thread, it all helps us no matter where it is posted, I just read and learn, read and learn,,,, my thoughts anyway.
