April Plant swap in Newcastle

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi all,

I'm volunteering to host a plant swap at my home in Newcastle in April. Anyone have preferences for weekends?

It will be a pot luck and depending on weather we may have to eat inside! :)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Hi JB! I think it's a great idea - I just posted a response about the Green elephant plant swap today - it's just too darn early for some of us. So yours would be at a great time.
For the record: mid April on is best for me. But I can probably adjust to whatever date you select.

Snohomish, WA

Hi JB! I was at the green elephant and it was a blast. A regular DG get together. The end of April might be good. Let some of our stuff come up a little more so we can see what we can divide up and trade.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

ditto. =:0)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi,

I don't know whether I could make it, but if I can, the third weekend, 19th-20th, would be best for me-in between two big plant sales down this way and other plans.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

19th would work for me. I am in town to fly to AK. I don't know what I would have but soon I will.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

We have Dragonfly on the 27th, And I am starting my Vac. on that day, that would be pushing my luck with the Boss. But I'm game for the 19th, what can he do fire me, sometimes I wish. All he can say is no, but I tried LOL
JB; How come I have not seen you in our treads?
or have I ?
lost as usual.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Tills - JB is a busy woman!!!
I hope you are able to make it to her plant swap.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I will try my da###s to be there.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Tills - I have all my digits crossed for you to be able to come. I know the workwork thing can be a bit challenging...
JB had a memorable plant swap back in Sept '06 - it was fabulous & LOTS of food/people/plants.

Jacquie - do you have any updated photos of your backyard?
You had just finished planting a large area prior to the plant swap. I'm anxious to see the progress.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

19th would be awesome!! I'm in Oregon the weekend of the 12th for my niece's birthday, and I don't want to miss anything. I'd love to meet you JBuresh.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Jburesh it is the same house in newport right?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Yes - that's the one, Steve.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

The 19th would be great!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey all, the 19th it is then.

Katye, my yard is progressing nicely. Doesn't look like much now, but I think I have a pic or two taken late last year that I can post. The hellebores i bought through coop on DG last year look great right now.

We had to redo our septic last spring so had to put in new sod. Thankfully the guys in the backhoe were really careful and stayed out of the gardens. I was so impressed. I don't think I lost a single hosta.

Sofer, yes it is the same house. Glad you all remember from that far back. LOL.

All are welcome and we will probably have some live music after lunch for those who want to stick around. DH has a alt-country band and they love to get together and play.

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Here is the hosta bed just as the hostas are starting to go dormant in Sept last fall. The new grass is really dark green with the old grass lighter in color.

View of the hosta bed on the right. On the left is full sun, dahlia, roses, etc. I built this bed to hide the septic air vent that ended up about 15 feet away from the deck... a really good excuse for a really big bed. It has over 120 plants in there.

Now I remember that I first met Kayte and Soferdig at your place during that swap. Was it really that long ago?

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

My DH's surgery is on the 26th (tentatively anyway) and I'm afraid that the 19th of April will be too soon for me to be away from him for long, darn it. We'll see, though - and I do have some plants potted up if it works out.

Your yard is lovely - and oh, my! Live music, too? How much fun that would be!!!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That sounds like so much fun!! Your yard looks great, JB.

Carole, hoping that Steve does so well that he'll be tired of you hanging around so much and will want you to go out. :-)

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Jacquie - I remember it well for several reasons, but the one that stands out was that you had JUST finished putting so many plants in the ground.
The amount of energy spent was awesome, and your hard work showed!
It is good to see someone's young garden grow & progress, so thank you for the pictures. The 19th sounds excellent - please let us know what food you would like us to bring. Thanks again!!! K

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Yes the yard has become more beautiful. You had just started to put plants in the ground when I was there. Now they look mature. I remember a fruit tree that isn't there anymore in the first picture. Maybe it isn't in that part of the picture. I will be able to spend the day there this time because I won't have to work that day. Just get to airport and daughter's to say hi.

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

The apple tree is still there Sofer, just didn't get in the pictures. LOL

Thank you all for the compliments. I've had a great time transforming the yard. And just have "minor" touches to perform this year. Trying to let the plants gain maturity before I decide to move them around. LOL

I hope you can make it Murmur, even if just for a little while.

As for what to bring, we can start a separate thread for that if you like or just post what you'd like to bring here. That will help others decide so we have a good variety.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

What time are you planning on having people arrive?

And, really like your curvy garden beds. :)

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

It's on my calender! Looking forward to meeting Steve and Jacquie! J- Your gardens are beautiful! I have one of those sepic tank vents and I completely agree that the only way to make it blend in is to make it into a garden bed!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Start time will be around 10am, I'm not particular, though I guess my neighbors might be. :)

There is parking on both sides of the street, no curbs. the neighbor right next to me has a large drive loop, just don't make it so she can't get out of her driveway. Otherwise, she's fine with the commotion.

DH will probably direct traffic like last time.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I am a bad bad boy. I can't come because I am flying direct from Kalispell to Juneau and won't be driving to seattle to fly out. You all will have to forgive me and have fun without me. Sorry Steve.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

You ARE a bad boy. I was thinking today while making my bed (I keep thinking about you saying that you'd been working on the soil for one bed for 4 years) that we hadn't heard anything from you in awhile.

I can imagine that it will be faster to fly to Alaska. And then you'll have more time in your garden. We'll miss you. Have a good trip!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I have been looking. You guys are talking plants and plans. We are still in the ice age in Montana. Just watching and waiting in Montana. In Seattle now and off to Juneau on Easter. I have been on Carol's page in Parking lot.

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Hi all, I can't make it to the swap either, but will try to dig hostas for Pixy, RachieR, and Analog if he wanted some and get them to J Buresh's for the swap day.

Are you three going to be there or will someone who can be a delivery-person to these folks be there? Let me know and I'll be in touch with JB for a drop off rendezvous.

Sure sounds like fun. Wonderful of you to hostess Jackie. Perhaps a hostess hosta for you too? Any particular colors/heights??, just say the word.
Annie

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Annie - depending on volume, I can probably do a pickup again.
Dmail the logistics to me.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Annie - I'd love hostas if you have any extras!!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Annie,

So sorry you won't be able to make it. And thanks for the offer of a hosta. I'd love a bicolor or blue. The larger the better.

My address is in the potluck thread. You can drop the plants by anytime that is good for you. Weather I'm home or not, my neighbors keep a close eye on my house so the plants will be safe. You can Dmail me and I'll give you my number.

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

I will probably drop off what I dig on a Thursday or Friday, Jackie, and will get your address from the other thread. I have a lovely 24" crinkled blue/green variety- just have to find it in the emerging shade garden corresponding to last year's photos. If I guess wrong, you can destroy at will!

Okay, Katie 59. I'll see what I can come up with and mark them for you.

How about Rachie, Analog and Pixie? Will you or your representatives be there?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Annie. We'll miss you.

At some point I have to meet Rach or Melissa for hellebores and an ornamental rhubarb - I'm thinking that will be on the 19th.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Annie,
I will be at the swap and I can take Pixy's to her as well. Thanks again for sharing! Rachel

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Great. Thanks Rachel. I'm enjoying your trees from the Green Elephant daily. They are temporarily housed in the main dahlia bed, but will be evicted to permanent homes soon enough. They are doing great!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Glad to hear it Annie! All of my babies from you are already in thier permanent homes, well at least for this summer. Might move things around in the fall depending on how it all looks this summer. :0) How are your goats? Hugs, Rachel
