Dying for seeds here!

San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica(Zone 12b)

Hello everyone! I'm new here at DG, but love to trade seeds. It is so frustrating living in Costa Rica and not having access to any gorgeous, special hibiscus plants. It's surprising, but that is the case here. We have the climate, but no one is growing or selling fancy hibiscuses! I would love to trade seeds with anyone who might have a few seeds to spare from their lovely, fancy plants! Please check my Tradelist and send me a D-mail if you think a trade is possible.

Thanks so much!

Just wanted to make sure that you knew the fancy tropicals won't come true from seed...some of the seedlings you get can grow up to be very beautiful and special (we're always admiring pics of new pretty flowers from some of the people who breed them), but others will be more plain and ordinary. It's still fun to grow them and see what you get, but I wanted to make sure you weren't expecting them to turn out like the parents.

Thanks ecrane3! Yes, I realize that you never know what a seedling will end up looking like. I'm just so tired of the plain old pinks, yellows, reds, and corals that you see everywhere here. I did manage to start a couple of cuttings from a friend's plant that has a pretty dark burgundy picotee flower. I want anything at all that may turn out unusual, especially the very frilly ones lol! It's too bad I can't have plants shipped here or I'd buy a few named cultivars that I like.

vanillaman, In a spanish-portuguese hibiscus forum there is a member that lives in Panama and he buys there many exotic varieties, mainly Sinclair's an Dupont's varieties. I think he visited many nurseries and finally he found at least one that sells those varieties. The same can be happening in Costa Rica. Maybe one or two nurseries are selling modern hibiscus and it's a matter of visiting as much nurseries as you can until to find the right one.
I will write him an email to know where he buys the varieties, maybe is not too far from where you live. During the turistic season is hard to get in contact with him so I can't promise you a fast answer.

Regards

Carlos
