Tropical Seeds for Trade

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

I have posted a modest list of small quantities of tropicals for trade. I'm relatively new to trading, and mostly I don't have much of a "want" list, but I have had fun thus far getting to know other members and getting seeds for stuff I wouldn't usually be able to buy locally. Some of the seeds I have posted have a short viability and should be planted soon, and it is all listed in my trade list. Horticulturally yours, F4F

Nice plant. I recommend you choose either the B. rufescens or the C. Quadriloculare for that trade. The jatropha is great, too. Wonderful butterfly plant, but common here. Dmail me!

You actually grow all this stiff in your yard? It would make an interesting combo. Wish I could grow a sausage tree, they're just kind of cool looking. When the fruit drops I'm not sure how cool that would be but...

We live on 5 acres. Most of it comes from our yard, some from Botanical Gardens, parking lots, some from neighbors, a few things I am retrading when I get enough from other trades (esp. international trades.) The sausage tree wouldn't live in your zone, but the best thing about it is the cool flowers. The leaf is pretty unusual, too. It only makes the sausages when the right fruit bat is around to pollinate it. We have coconuts, which we constantly pick up, so the sausage tree isn't any worse than that!

I might be interested in a trade for Ylang Ylang Vine and the really the only thing I have left is Telosma cordata. That might be a trade. Looks like I have 15 or so seeds left over. I got 100% germination on these, quick too. I'm just waiting for warmer weather to put them outside.

Question? Think That Ylang Ylang vine would grow fast enough to worth it for me? I'm just warming up now and nights should be over 50 every night soon. I have no problem with heat over the summer. If it's something that takes a while to bloom it might not be worth it. Most vines grow like crazy and bloom fast so I'm thinking it would be worth it if I could get it to seed.

I tried it here and it couldn't take my winter but you may have better luck??

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

That's why I want it to go to seed. I don't think it will make it through winter, in fact I would bet it doesn't. Same with the Telosma cordata, I just grow it as an annual. Start the seeds inside and let the roots develop and out it goes when it's warm enough. With the tropical vines it keeps them from getting invasive so it might be a positive. LOL.

You couldn't grow the Artabotryus as an annual. I don't know why they call it a vinging ylang ylang- its really more of a shrub to me. It twines, yes, and I suppose you could espalier it and train it to really vine. Its nothing like a fast growing, truly vining plant. You would have to overwinter it, and yes, it would take some time until it flowers- not sure how long exactly, but I've had some seedlings that I started last summer and I've got no flowers yet. Don't know if you still want to trade- I'd be happy with 2 or 3 seeds of the Telosma if you are interested.

No thanks then. I really didn't check it out enough, thought it was a vine and I'm not much on plants that have to be brought inside for the winter. Maybe if I had a green house. A green house strikes me as too much work so I probably won't be getting one of those. LOL.

Did you notice the clitoria? Its not fragrant, but bees love it, and its got an .....interesting flower. That one flowers and seeds profusely, grows and germinates quickly- it would work for your situation if you don't already have it.

Let me check it out. I would have a hard time with the name though.

Blue butterfly pea flower is the common name. I am so used to using scientific names all the time.
