What can I grow beneath the Green Bean Teepee?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I have a BEAUTIFUL new 7.5' green bean Teepee sitting in a brand new lasagna bed filled with sifted compost and earthworms. I'm planting Kentucky Wonder and Sugar Snap beans to grow up the eight legs of the treliss. But, what can I grow in the middle of the bed, that will appreciate some of the shade the covered trellis will provide? I'd like to plant another veggie, or, a shade loving flower that would be attractive beneath the green beans.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!

How about leaf lettuce, spinach, or bok choy?

OH MY GOSH!, Gym girl. I have almost the exact thing that I worked on today. 20" deep lasagna garden that we have been adding to all winter.
Finally had 7 cu yds of compost, dirt, lava sand, and Texas green sand that was a mixture added to the top. Been planting all day. Built the teepee and planted the Snap Peas and Kentucky Wonder today. Lots of other veggies and already had some planted 3 weeks ago. Still need seed potatoes and tomatoes. Going to plant the herb bed Sunday. Oh, I'm so happy it is almost
Spring.

GG,
Did yours survive the big blow we got Monday night?

Mine took a sidestep with the west legs, bit is still standing. Now I'm glad the beans had not sprouted. Will stabilize tonight.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Nope. I made it through. Hadn't planted the beans yet, either. They'll go in this weekend. Too busy chasing the snake in the Sago and taking pics. EVERYTHING's getting planted out this weekend.

How're your maters doing?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

We are having a set-back. Supposed to be 24 degrees by Friday night.
Got to wrap or bring in a bunch of stuff I took out this week. bummer.

DW moved everything closer to the house, so all tomatos, lettuce, etc. are fine. Think the ones I got at SW Fert. liked it - they look like they are 6" taller than Sunday, and yours are also gaining some altitude.

Just have to devote this Saturday to getting the west end of the garden planted.

May just transplant some of the toms into bigger pots for now.

How cold is it getting tomorrow night in Houston? Missed the weather. Do I need to bring the seedlings BACK in the house?

GG,
Check the forecast tonight. - especially the Hobby area forecast. You have the bayou to add some warmth to your yard. Plus it is supposed to rain today, so there will be even more moisture in the air.

We watch the Sugar Land forecast - usually 2-4 degrees above Bush, and we have Oyster Creek behind us, so there is often a light frost, but very rarely any real freezing.

I think they will be fine and a bit more hardy for the experience.
