I'm looking for some Jerseys and Brahmas, the only place I can find both is Murry, McMurry and I really don't need 25. Anybody know of someplace else?
Jersey Giants and Brahamas, where to find them
Never mind, I found Healthy Chicks and More out of Ohio that has them in small numbers and FREE shipping. When I calculated the cost of chicks and shipping with several diffrent places, it still comes out good at 3.75 a chick and 5.75 a turkey.
Healthy Chicks and More is great. May i also recommend:

i plan to order from them in May. busy with our incubators now!
what color Jersey's are you getting? We are breeding Black Jersey Giants, and some crosses with BlackAustralorps. The eggs are beautiful, and they are so good natured. BIG though LOL...

I thought probably, the black. I have no black chickens, I really prefer the slow growing big chickens for meat. We tried the cornish crosses and while we got a really big dumb chicken fast, I didn't think they had the flavor of homegrown farm chickens.
I saw Brahmas at the chicken show and we fell in love with them, so I wanted to try some of them too.
I'll try to get my silkies to hatch out some americaunnas for me as that's what my rooster and some hens are.
Last summer I started my chickens early and by the time the turkeys came, the chickens were far enough ahead to hold their own with the turkey chicks, so I threw them all tigether in a pasture area. When the chickens started flying over the fence and driving me nuts, I butchered them.
Then of course, there will be the inevitable "mystery chicks" that are left over and on sale at tractor supply in late april if we want more. Last time the boys came home with 25 chicks that were 2 1/2 weeks old for 99 cents a piece.
Thanks, Jylgaskin, for letting me know when TC sells their leftover chicks. I am probably expanding my flock and if I can get them for under a buck, so much the better. Especially if they are about the same age as my home-hatched chicks. I can put them alongside each other until my keets come in and then put them all together (not the keets, though) without much trouble.
I'll try to keep you posted!
Thanks!!
Jylgaskin, where is your nearest TSC? Ours is in Big Rapids.
Ours is just south of Traverse City.
Granny, I didn't realize that we were so close! Maybe we can trade breeds. Are you intrested in any duck or Narragansett Turkey eggs or chicks or ducklings?
Nope, just keeping with the dual purpose chicks. Only got my flock so I could have fresh eggs as I can't eat store-bought ones. Now I am selling the ones I don't use, so I am not really "farming". But thanks, anyway. There is a farmer in Baldwin who has been selling eggs on eBay. His eBay name is "Jimsfarms". He sells turkey, guinea and quail eggs. I was going to get guinea eggs from him, but decided to buy day-olds from Ideal instead.
