Spring starting up in Northern CA

Oakland, CA(Zone 9b)

Driving down the freeway the other day, I noticed the magnolias are blossoming and the plum trees are in full bloom! My freesias have formed flower spikes but aren't open yet. The white callas and purple bearded iris have given me a couple of pretty bouquets so far, with more to come.

Here's some photos of the garden I took yesterday. Hope you enjoy them!

Clivia is about to bloom. The orange is reliable, but my red one hardly blooms at all.

This is coleonema (Breath of Heaven) and an 'Occold Gold' pelargonium. The coleonema never seems to be out of bloom, but right now it's in full glory.

This is colorful foliage in my shade bed. I really love this combination of plants.

This is a red-flowering grevillea, although it looks pink to me!

Osteospermums. They are my most prolific reseeders, and are popping up everywhere.

Dwarf Rhaphiolepsis, or Indian Hawthorn. One of my favorite shrubs.

Tibouchina heteromalla. When touched by a bit of frost, the leaves develop a reddish tinge. Leaves that are killed by frost turn a flaming orange - very beautiful, but then they drop off and leave naked branches!

Variegated erysimum - another of my favorites.

wow! beautiful flowers! thanks for sharing. I've been noticing all those trees in bloom (commute to piedmont everyday) and I'm so jealous! Even the daffodils bloomed there before my home! :(
I only have one daffodil that bloomed so far, and a handful of crocus & anemones. Cant wait for everything else to come up!

Beautiful as always, Jkom! Thanks for sharing, we really need it right now since we are still frozen and still covered in snow.

It is looking like Spring here in New Mexico too. I noticed some daffodils blooming when I was out and about yesterday. Last week I noticed a wild verbena blooming by my driveway. Our winter has been an especially mild one, but too long for me even though we had roses until after Thanksgiving. Your photos are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. jj

All your plants are just beautiful, jkom. I love the coleonema (Breath of Heaven) and an 'Occold Gold' pelargonium. : )
