A few folks have inquired about what butterflies come to butterfly brew, scat and puddles - so here are some photos.

Giant Swallowtails having a go at the edge of our pond. We have cattle in this area so cow poo and minerals tend to leech into the soil.

Puddling, scat and butterfly brew photos
Thanks for the link! Much appreciated :-)
Butterflies have a sense of humor too. This is an old photo and a tad fuzzy...but it is of a Gray Cracker on a fence post that has been baited with brew. Gotta love the butterfly posing on this fence post with a National Wildlife Park sign!

ps...gotta head out to work now...will continue posting when I get home tonight :o)
That's it folks...add your own photos of butterflies puddling, on brew or scat etc.

Cat, I just looked through these pics a third time and gotta say WOW. I almost fell over myself (literally, trying to take a picture) to have one GST venture into my yard, and there are three in your first picture!
Sheila, your pic above looks so cute- it's like the two bf's are at the "brew bar" just hanging out, "Hey, how was your day?" "Not bad, found a new buffet on the East side, some nice nectar going on over there, not to mention the ladies were looking good too!"
Cat has the advantage over a lot of us by living near the TX & Mexico border close to a Butterfly Park.

I will be planning a trip down there after retirement for sure to see all the beauties she sees everyday. Can you tell I have BF Envy!!!?
Yup, pretty green with envy here too!
Thanks for the neat pics!
Shiela,
This is the link for our NABA South Texas Chapter - here's where you can see ALL the butterflies we see here :o) Arrrooooooo!!! There is also a link for gardening which has an excellent pdf file of nectar plants and caterpillar host plants.

ps...and if you're green with envy we also get about 7 or 8 butterflies that are green too :o) This is a Telea Hairstreak (not known to come to brew) but it had not been sighted in 70 years. This is from Falcon State Park's butterfly garden.
oh,,oh, oh,, I sooo enjoyed these pictures. I have put tangerines out (trying to also attract bluebirds) and they can just freeze and attract butterflies too.. come on warmer weather.. going to check out the Malachite.. I bet he just likes that Texas weather...LOL
