this is jasper!

dear friends, first let me say once again how much i appreciate what you all did for me after bosco died. your words of comfort have really helped me. right afterwards, john fell ill again and that whole week following was a nightmare. i think we are back on the right track now and he is feeling good again. i, on the other hand, have been sinking ever deeper into one of those depressions where life goes on around you but you just sit and stare and can't and don't want to participate in any but the most mundane of daily chores. i have almost been fearful to even start the "new dog" process. bosco's memory is still so fresh and, well, you know how it is.

today when i woke up i decided to start calling the shelters. there are three here, 2 no-kills and the county pound. no one had any smallish dogs and when they asked what i was looking for, i couldn't even give a good answer but i didn't know myself. they all gave me the name of a lady here in umatilla who runs a small dog rescue. my hair stylist had given me her name last week but i hadn't called. when a dog comes in with fixable health issues and isn't adoptable the way it is, they call her. so i called.

she was so nice and we set up a time for this afternoon. when i got there i showed her my bosco memorybook and we talked quite a while before she brought out the biggest of the dogs she has. i had been picturing many different dogs in my head but nothing in the color white! he is truly about as far from bosco as i could possibly get. that was not planned though. he is a poodle/terrier mix (to me) and has a great personality, a very funny, happy dog. he is about 2 yrs. old, doesn't shed or chew (no seperation anxiety), is housebroken and isn't a "needy" dog. (her words). he is in good health too. he had been adopted out to a family with older children and began snapping and was returned. she wanted him to go to an owner who is "dog savvy" and with no children now. he never left my side except to try and get the other dogs to play. she brought out several more, all sweet and wonderful, but he was the one. he really picked me more than i picked him. i took some pictures and filled out the application.

she is very strict and that is a good thing! i have a 7 day trial period and she has a list of do's and don'ts, all of which are on my own personal list. he comes neutered, all shots and a copy of the records, heartworm and flea/tick meds, oh and micro-chipped too. she will bathe him, do his nails, etc. and bring him over on wednesday. we don't know how he is with cats, so cross your fingers! i showed the pictures to john when i came home and he liked him right away!

so here he is-jasper. let's hear what YOU think he is. those front legs are almost bassett, but i don't see that breed in him. his hair is soft and kind of wavy and yikes! that tail!!! it's like a flag. lol
