I don't know how many of you know of this, but this is a pretty cool place to find some good deals for gardening/farming. The current bulletin has a couple of ads for VERY cheap nursery supplies, and there are some good plants ads, too.

very cool! thanks for the link.....
North carolina has the same--its the Agricultural Review. I'll try to attach a link, if I can find it.....
Here it is, I think..... http://www.ncagr.com/paffairs/agreview/index.htm
well...in the words of Elvis Presley....thaaannkkk you...thank you very muuucchhh
FYI, if anyone cares, the well-known Charlotte, NC garden columnist Elizabeth Lawrence started and almost finished a book entirely based on the southern market bulletins of the 40's and 50's.. It was finished after her death. She was quite intriqued with all the heirloom species existing solely in small, southern farm communities, as well as all the regional names for the same plant. Quite a fun read, if you can find it. I believe its listed on Amazon--just look under author name Elizabeth Lawrence. You could also google "Southern Market Bulletins" I suspect and locate it.
When I was in Columbia I used the Market Bulletin all the time and there were many ads for plants in that area. For some reason few folks in the lowcountry advertise in the Bulletin so I no longer subscribe. I made a lot of interesting gardening friends from people I met through the Bulletin.
aahhh EL...now there was a woman so farrrr ahead of her times it is unfathomable to think today of just what exactly it meant to be a woman of her stature in the 40's and 50's...she is truly an icon in gardening in my book! and also a wonderful inspiration to me...
Yes, me to. Still hoping to get to visit her gardens one of these days, but keep missing the open days....
I sent them an email asking for open dates of the gardens...will let ya know what I hear..it would be super cool to get a bunch of dg'rs together and go!
Ooh! I'd love that. I've read most of her books, and would love to stand in her garden, and envision her standing there, just the same way we would be.....
Here is the info I got back from them...I am curious how many it takes for a group tour and if they charge. It would be neat to host a daves garden tour there!
The garden will be open as part of the Wing Haven Gardeners' Garden tour May 10-11--for more information, check www.winghavengardens.com.
Group tours for the Lawrence Garden are available by appointment.
I also love Elizabeth Lawrence's books.I ordered them from Amazon a few years back and have been receiving the SC market bulletins ever since.Thank you for the web link
I just returned from the mountains (North West of Boone NC) I went up there with my DD and grandkids.I went up to pack up my stuff that is in an antique mall in Boone. It is closing and I need to move everything to the basement of our house.
We went up on Tuesday and woke up on Wednesday morning to about 8" of snow.We live way back so the truck I hired to move the stuff couldn't do it.
Now I have to go back tomorrow with my husband and do the move on Monday because they are closing on Wednesday.
On the way back yesterday we went through Charlotte because I wanted to go to trader
joe's.This added about an hour to the trip that usually takes about 6 hours.I found out that North Carolina farms is very near the area that we went through.I plan to stop there in April and get some flats of plugs.I will order them soon.If anyone lives in the Charlotte area or wants to drive to the place we could do some sharing. They have many really nice things. There are several co-ops going on now over at the coop forum but I prefer to pick up my own for most plugs.
FYI, I've been trying to access the EL site and the Wing Haven site for several days, and it appears their server/website are down at the moment....anyone else had trouble?
are you still having troubles getting to those site yote?
Got there via your link, thanks, just couldn't get there directly, not sure why...
