I bought the passiflora incense yesterday because I'm particularly interested in attracting frits.
I realize it's going to be invasive here in Texas, and would like to do "what I can" to minimize the invasion. I understand that if I plant it in a large pot next to my fence that will help some, but I have two questions:
1) Does the passiflora invade by drooping to the ground and rooting?
2) What about seeding from all those flowers? Will I have dozens and dozens of little volunteers coming up from seed?
3) If I planted in another location against my house (brick wall) instead of the fence, will the heat radiating from the house kill all the cats? :(
Thanks so much for any help you can give me. I really appreciate it!

??? New to passifloras - purchased "incense"
Jo,
No, No, and No.
Just kidding but actually those are your answers. The passiflora will send up root runners. Easy enough to keep mowed down or pull up and pass along to the passiflora deprived :-) The flowers do not make seeds, the seeds come from the passionfruit. The passiflora is a fruiting vine, however, I don't think "Incense" is known for fruiting. Other varieties are grown for that. Last but not least, I grow one of my vines ( Lady Margaret ) on a trellis next to the house and the caterpillars love it. I've noticed they do go behind leaves for shade during the heat of the day but otherwise they seem quite happy. I am sure wherever you put it, your GF cats will be happy too. Trudi
Thanks so much for that answer!
You are most welcome, anything to encourage another Butterfly gardener ;-)
Good luck with that "Incense" vine, it will be beautiful and you ( and the caterpillars) will love it. Trudi
