koi spawning

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i am looking for something to use for koi to spawn on,does anyone have any idea and can they be used in the aquarium and ponds or what please help me to figure this out i would like to use something that wasent so exspensive but would love to hear about your success stories of what you all have used thxs so much for helping

Toronto, ON(Zone 6b)

I have had them spawn in the roots of floating plants. I think that even the underside of lilly pads would work. Robb.

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

I've heard of people making spawning mops out of yarn. I would make sure the yarn didn't leach any dye into the water by a thorough washing or maybe even boiling. There are some moderately inexpensive ropes for sale on ebay.

Clayton, NC(Zone 8a)

Koi will frolic and spawn on anything in warm shallow water. The eggs can be dispersed to every square inch of the pond, though the spawn that drifts into deep water is likely to spoil.

Parrots Feather, Cabomba, Hornwort, Water hacinth, Water Lettuce are plants with large surface areas that the eggs can stick to... Thats a convenient way to collect numbers of eggs to carry to isolation positions, to hatch the eggs without predators scoffing them

You could place a mass of black trash bags in shallow waters, that would be an effective spawning material...
