I finally broke down and used Avid on those nasty broadmites and spidermites today. I had between 1/4 and 1/2 gallon left. May I save it and use it next Wednesday? If it can't be used, how do I dispose of it safely?
Will it be OK to use the "Recipe" between Avid sprays?
Used Avid today
Yes you can save it. Agitate it a little before you use it again.
Betty, I keep a bottle of Avid spray in my greenhouse so I can zap mites when I see them. This works instantly on the mites, so using the Recipe the next day would not be a problem. It might even work once the Avid has dried.

Mary, Tussee, thank you for the information.

Keep it in the shade until the next use. UV light has a way of making chemicals break down. I like to cover the top of the sprayer with a plastic bag. It keeps the dust and bugs out of the pump cause they always find a way into the sprayer clogged tips and chemicals are not much fun.
When I sprayed, I started at the back of the greenhouse and worked my way to the front. Then I just reached in and placed the sprayer inside. I guess I'd better go move it into the barn. You're so right about chemical degradation. I didn't think about it. I just wanted to come in and shower. Thanks.
I have controlled my spider mites and white flies with anti stress 2000... so much better than last year doing everything imagineable to keep the populations down. It is the stuff designed to help protect plants in super heat and light frosts..the unadvertised benefit seems to be it helps with those pests too.

I would have been running for the shower too.. if your sprayer is not clear, I would not worry about uv degredation...
I used the Avid because of the broadmites. Otherwise, I would have used Neem Oil on the spidermites. I bought the Anti-stress 2000 late last year so I haven't used it yet. I'll have to remember to use the anti-stress 2000 if I have any more problems with spidermites since Neem burns the leaves in hot weather. I bought a bright orange sprayer so I won't pick up the sprayer I put RoundUp or Grazon in. Then I'd really get rid of the spidermites!!! 'Cause I'd get rid of the attractor — my Brugs. LOL
whats the difference between broad mites and spider mites i sprayed some bayer yesterday that said it controlled spider mites, Im pretty sure I have some kind mite the under side lookes all yucky and leaves get yellow. I thought these only came out in the summer?
Broad mite is a specific species of mite that is a spider mite, but is not one of the typical web-spinning tetranychids that most people are familiar with. It tends to cause deformed leaves more than just stippling and yellowing. Also, not all insecticides control broad mite, for example floramite.
wow that is an evil pest. I better do some research.
so where do you buy your avid from. I am pretty sure I have mites and broad mides and all the mites and i what lucious beautiful leaves
this is what i used on them yesterday

Steph, the photo shows what broadmite damage looks like. The leaves are deformed and thickened. You can't see broadmites only their damage. You can see spidermites if you use a good magnifying glass. If you tap the leaves over a white sheet of paper, you will get s dusting of dark or reddish specks. Those are the spidermites.
Only a few products work against broadmites so you have to be sure you actually have broadmites and that you rotate the use of the pesticides that kill them so the broadmites don't develop an resistance to the pesticide. Spidermites, on the other hand are easier to control. One of the best pesticides to use against spidermites is Neem Oil. The mites don't develop any kind of resistance to it since it kills by suffocation. Some Brug growers have reported success with Anti-Stress2000. I have both the Neem Oil and the Anti-Stress2000, but I've only used Neem Oil on spidermites. I've also used Bayer's 2 in 1 in the larger pots for long term control. A word of caution on the Bayer's that contain fertilizer. The fertilizer is too strong and can kill plants in small pots. Water the plants well before using Bayers.
I don't remember where I bought the Avid. It was a while back, but didn't need to use it til just now. I do remember that it was expensive. Some of the other products that kill broadmites are even more expensive. I bought the 100% Neem Oil locally for about $20.00. Big difference so it pays to be sure what kind of pest you have before you spray.
