planning hibiscus bed

Rockport, TX(Zone 9b)

I am wondering about how to arrange the different colors in a hibiscus bed. I was going to group them by color, say 3 red, 2 orange, etc. On the other hand, when I see the photos of multiple blossoms from many different cultivars, I think maybe planting willy-nilly would be nice. Thoughts and experiences?

I agree with Jordan. Mixing up the colors makes it seem more lush.
I would imagine that instead of using color to decide placement, you might want to consider the plants growth habit - taller in back, etc.
Of course, if you have a BIG bed and lots of plants, a color sceme might work out and look quite impressive. If that's your situation...I'm REALLY jealous!

Well, my irregularly shaped bed seems big to me but it's not really. I've marked spots for 9 hibiscus, allowing about 50 inches between (good?), but to get 9 in, I'll have to dig up two other plants, and I don't know where they'll go. I am delighted to hear that willy nilly works, because honestly, it seems like more fun. I've bought one so far, Cosmic Dancer, which I had to have when I saw it.
I'll keep the advice on height and growth habit in mind; makes sense. Thanks!

Just returned from Maui where Hibiscus is the national flower. They seem to plant them one of a kind all together. All yellow, all red, etc. Don't really seem to mix.
