African Blue Basil

Ocoee (W. Orlando), FL(Zone 9b)

Has anyone heard that Af Blue Basil doesn't seed, no matter how much it blooms, and can only be propogated by cutting?

I think I've heard that it's a sterile variety, yes. I had a plant several years ago, put it in a window box planter, and it was *huge* by the end of summer -- like 3 ft. kind of huge, and that's after I pruned it!

It's true. It's a hybrid.I pruned mine.Currently over wintering indoors under lights.Have started several from cuttings.I was told its a perennial,if I bring it indoors over winter in zone 5.Edge

Mine is 3 years old, I cut it back when it gets to about 3-4 feet (it's a massive bush) I have every kind of basil I can get my hands on, but noticed this one never has seedlings around it. I'll try to start some cuttings to propogate it. I love having it around because it's always in bloom and covered with bees, so my yard gets pollinated very well.
