Thank you Rose, I enjoy all yours too!
Thanks sadie!
You sing well Panamon! Thanks!
Thank you again angele! I would love to have Hummingbirds, none here but I have some cuties anyway. Got blooms too! Birds and blooms are amongst the best things!
Lol, thanks again bebop! I bet that butterfly pic was't taken today, lol, very pretty!
Thanks nanny! Oh isn't the little squirrel cute! He's peeking at me, lol.
Hope you have a birdiful birthday Wallaby.
Thanks Marilyn!
I love the colour of the Oriole, so exciting to see such a bird!
Wallaby,
Thanks! I love it too! Wished we could see them all Summer in the yard! I even went out and got an Oriole feeder, but never saw any bird ever use it. :-(
Here's the rest of the pics that DH or I took last June. These were all taken in the back yard. We have 4 Hummingbird feeders ( all the same style ) that we change the sugar water daily. 2 in the front yard and 2 in the back yard.
You must get a lot of Hummers! I wonder if you could find something else that might attract the Orioles.
Is this a thing they do commonly, drink sugar water, or was that one just very thirsty?
Wallaby,
Here's some links for Orioles
http://www.birdsforever.com/oriole.html
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Baltimore_Oriole.html
From the Cornell site: Food.....
Caterpillars, fruits, insects, spiders, and nectar.
They love grape jelly ( read somewhere that it has to be the Welch's brand ), fresh orange halves, sugar water
"Oriole's eat primarily insects, but in summer and fall eat fleshy fruits and berries. Mulberries, serviceberries, brambles, cherries, mountain ash, nuts and figs are among their favorite plant foods."
That's on the first link, they mention orange halves for attracting them to your backyard among other things. Also orange marmalade. I have noticed with some birds their colour matches the colour of berries they eat, or they have the colour on their head and elsewhere, maybe a camouflage while eaiting.
Try anything orange!
The Orioles that visit my yard love orange halves, the hummingbird nectar & grape jelly, yes, grape jelly!
Happy belated birthday, Wallaby!! Wouldn't be the same on Dave's without you :) Hope you had a great one!
Thanks grammy! We joined the white brigade, today was -2C (28F) at midday and still the same, but not as foggy and less freezing fog (as if that makes any difference at -2C, lol)
Thanks again booj! Nice to know I have such great friends on here! Oh yes, I relate to that owl, in the fog, lol.
Thanks gardenpom, gee this birthday just keeps going on, as long as that happens will I stay the same age? LOL.
