Has anyone tried using coffee fiters to start seeds?

I use cut piece of paper towel in a plastic bag sometimes.. works fine for me.
Other has used toilet paper to germinate seeds. I guess any moisture retentive medium to keep the seeds, cuttings moist, would work?
I'm guessing coffee filters are the best as far as material.. cause if you don't catch them before they root.. the roots grasp the paper and it's so easy to break them when you pick em up to plant.. I was using Viva (the paper towels that feel like cloth) and had that happen.. so now I'll just use coffee filters..
I tried coffee filters and they did not work well... I do use them for a lot of my seeds but paper towels work much better for this.
