Any red blooming brug cultivars that grow well in Zone 9/10?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I am curious to know if there are any brugs that have a red bloom that I could grow? Being in the warmer zone here in Florida, I have heard that some brug bloom colors as well as doubles and triples don't do well here in the warmer regions of the US. Is that true? If not, any suggestions on a good brug with red blooms that you would recommend?

Watertown, NY

The only "red brugs" are sangs and they do not grow in fl, it is too hot. Regular brugs come in shades of pinks, yellows, orange and white. Many do very well in Florida. I am sure you will get many answers from people who live near you with all the information you need.

Thanks theraglady!

Would "Day Dreams" grow okay in my zone? I believe it is a double flowering brug.

I know other people in Florida have Day Dreams, and from the pictures I'd say they do quite well. Here in California it does great in Spring and Fall, okay in Winter until frost, and just hangs on in the Summer. It's one of my favorites.

Thanks so much, Mary! We rarely get a hard freeze here.

Do Brugs slow down growth in the cooler months or continue to grow and bloom in Winter if the climate is warm?

Watertown, NY

Many in the southern most part of florida consider winter to be their best growing season. If you get a freeze they will die back to the ground and come back in the spring. I gave some to friend in Sebastian and they have done very very well.

Day dreams should do fine there.

Thanks everyone for the great info! Very much appreciate it!

I don't know, if you meant 'Day Dreams' in particular, or if it was pink flowering Angel's Trumpets in general?

If you meant in general, then I think that the threads Xeriscape8321 started will give a good idea. I believe that he is in zone 10b, so they have to be heat hardy to grow there:
