WELL NOW IT'S OFFICAL " BIG EAR FEST 08 "
I'm thinking hard about making the trip. Is it too early for a list of plants that will be for sale? Any of the hybrids? Thanks
Two of the hybrids that will be released are the Blue Portora (3 kinds) and the Imperial Giant. The Blue Portoras are ready now, in fact. Both require a signed non-distribution agreement (NDA) on file with me before release. I will have other plants on show but still too early to tell if I'll be releasing any others of the new hybrids.

Hi Jerry, LariAnn & Grubworm, I need at LEAST one kind of the Blue Portora and the Imperial Giant. I need to check out your website for the NDA? Better put me down for 2 on the Night at Aroidia.. wouldn't miss it! I get to do some planning, now! What fun!
I looked for a picture of the Blue Portora on your website but couldn't find it. Maybe you could post up a pic. I definitely want an Imperial Giant! That should be a great plant. You say they are ready now do you do shipping? If so you can D-mail me a quote for a Bl Portora and Imp Giant plus shipping to 32277. That would be great Thanks Linwood
You guys can count me in plus one. Can't wait, but I'm driving my car down so no big ears for me....:(
You'd be surprised what can fit in a car!! You should see what I've squeezed into my little Eclipse. When Brian Williams came by after the Aroid show, he was with his Mom and they drove from Louisville. His car was packed with plants front to back for the trip home (not all from me, though).
That sounds like Christmas. I better pack light...lol
Looks like we're taking my friends SUV instead of my car to the BEF. So more room for Ears to bring back...lol
I surely hate to miss the BEF. I love Big Ears and little ears too. I am currently fighting with a ruptured disk (number 3) and think I will just have to sit out this growing season. I don't even have a surgery date yet and when that happens I will still have to take good care of it for a while.
So I want all of you to be sure and post lots and lots of pictures so I can be with you that way.
Now if I could get a taste of the food someway---lol
Sandra
Anyone have any ideas on good places to stay around $150 a night? I thought about staying in Key Largo for the View. Someone that lives around there please give me your thoughts on that.
Nice leaves, Jerry! Sadly, disgustedly I won't be able to make the Fest... my tax return lacked digits, this year.. However, I will be making a trip to the Keys, maybe next spring, and I WILL get down there to see Aroidia. I'm very dissappointed, I was so looking forward to meeting everyone....but I want to take in a couple hibiscus places and drive on down to Key West when I'm there and make it a first time ever 2 week vacation. LariAnn, I sent an email for the NDA, but it was returned to me... I'll double check my spelling and send another, I do want to own at least a few of your monsters!
Jerry, sorry to hear you also have bad disks. I did have surgery last Friday, the new surgeon took the disk out and put screws and a rod in, also a device to hold bone growth material to fuse the 2 vertebrae. One thing for sure, that disk will not rupture again, it is gone !!! The first 3 days were pretty rough, but I am getting better each day.
AuntB-how sad, I know you wanted to go so badly. Things could change and let you go, you never know.
Sandra
Jerry, I'll see what I can snap tomorrow for you. The Ears are really starting to get going. Plus, looks like what used to be my big Robusta is going to bloom! The Borneo Giant is already blooming. What do you think I'm going to do?
YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE put my name FIRST on list for one of these GIANT EE's Jerry
I'AM JUMPING UP AND DOWN!!!YEA i hope it works!!!!! Jerry
Jerry,
If it were me, I wouldn't cut them off. They will all grow large and you'll have a huge clump like I do now. I would mound fresh soil up around the trunk and shoots so they can root more into it. I prefer not to wound the plants when I can avoid it. Taking those off will leave large wounds. Some people do it, and some people get away with it. I happen to be one of those who likes to leave well enough alone.
If you must take some off, clean the wounds thoroughly and dust them liberally with cinnamon powder. See my article this Wednesday for more about this.
LariAnn
LariAnn, As allways i will take your advice and leave it alone. Thanks. Jerry
Who all is Coming to the BIG EAR FEST!!!!! Let us know! Jerry
I can't wait, you know I'll be there.
How far is this from Orlando? I'll be going to disney world that week and if it isn't too far I would love to come. One can never have too many ee's
Jerry, Is that a philo in the pic further up ...looks a bit like the one I was enquiring about
brical1, I was looking at that picture that you saw and i went out and looked at mine. It's almost the same. The leaves on mine look a little shorter, but the other one could be a lot older. But the sad fact is i do'nt know the name of my plant. I got it in FLORIDA but it did not have a name tag on it. Jerry This Philo. looks like mine. It is at the DALLAS WORLD AQUARIUM. Will take some more pics. of mine tomorrow. It's 12:10am and i have to get up 5:00am to get ready for work. Goodnite.
Lovely pic Jerry,Nighty night
Jerry,Do you have to provide it with some protective cover in your winter.you'd get frost there wouldn't you?
brical1, Frosts? Man we have KILLER FREEZES! From 32*- to the TEENS. TrueTropical the next neighbor of Placenciarita, just got a new green house this fall and we had blue norther and his new heater went out. He lost allmost every plant in it. He had a 3-4ft. tall ROBUSTA that was killed and i never got to see it! Hope he has NOT lost interest in tropicals. Picture of my gh. last fall withno cover on it yet. Jerry

Looks like they did well for winter. I was checking my stuff out as well and I think it will be a great year if the weather works with us this season.
LariAnn, Do you have any new pictures of the Imperial Giant? Thanks. Jerry
brical1, Do you have any pictures to share? Jerry
Jerry,
Yes I was going to take one today but I was waiting for the newest huge leaf to unfurl. Maybe I can take it tomorrow. It's really BIG and spectacular, and getting bigger all the time.
LariAnn
YEA!!!!!!!
I would like to go!!! Brian, are you going??? If so, move over I am riding with you!! LOL
