Where did the hummingbirds go (annas)?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

These one type of hummingbirds (Anna's) that we get up and down the west coast, are known for sticking around through the winter. They have been around regular as clockwork, keeping me busy filling the feeders. I go back east to visit my son and family for 2 weeks, when I come back, they haven't touched a feeder. I haven't seen any, and 3 other people I know that keep their feeders filled have not seen them either. Does anyone know what happened to the birds? Is this usual behavior? We had a tornado, a week or so before I left, I hope that hasn't kept them away.
Thanks

They have probably been hibernating because of this ghastly weather. Just a funny observation-- we have brick around our house and the hummer's come every year and lick the lime that oozes out of the mortar. When we were building our house a bag of lime got dumped and they used to come and hover over it all the time.

Hi Vicki My folks have tons and they said that they sit on eggs in the winter. Mine have been gone for at least 3 weeks and yesterday I saw him and filled the feeders then I didn't see him today. Maybe they are working hard keeping their babies warm.

Great relief, as long as they are making new little babies they can be gone for awhile. I thought our tornado had scared them. I read up on them, and they used to stay just along the Ca. coast, but with the abundance of sweet flowers, and feeders, they broadened their "home" area to the whole west coast. I am glad, they help pass the dreary winter away.
Thanks

Hi Vicki,
I've still got mine! In fact, I think I've been seeing a couple extras. I think my usual male is doing courting dives for a cute little female who's just sort of turned up. Maybe Valentine's Day has gotten them thinking about other things.

Mine was doing the dive bombs about a month ago and I saw another for a few days then the other one stayed and now just showed up again yesterday

Ahhh ~ love. Cupid's arrow strikes again. Spring is in the air and a young man's (bird's) fancy turns to thoughts of . . .? (Food at my house!)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I haven't seen mine, I lost my trellis the feeders where on to the snow, caved the hole thing to the ground, have to set up something else. and have not had the time to fix it, and not going to be fun the twisted metal of the arbor and the wild rose thats entwined in it. its supposed to be a nice day and pruning is on the list.
Wish me luck with this, will take a pic before I start you can see with out the snow.

For heaven's sake tilly, where is Poulsbo, near Alaska? That's a lot of snow. It's snowed twice here in SW Washington and nothing stuck. I didn't know any of WA would get that much snow. Good luck cleaning that up.
