Such a pretty pic!
Thanks, Kell. I have been trying to learn how to use my new (but previously owned) Sony SuperShot H2 camera that my husband purchased off the internet. The shutter button was broken so it was really cheap; however, my husband fixed it. I told him that I didn't want a new camera just yet because we don't have a lot of money to spend. I suggested that he and I save up money for awhile and then buy me a really great camera. I have had some difficulty learning how to use it especially taking closeups. The user manual that came with camera the just doesn't answer my questions.
The LCD screen is much smaller than my other old 3.5 pixel Sony and I can not tell when subject is truly in focus. Every photo I took for quite some time was just a hair off from being in focus. I am now using the eyepiece which gives a better view and I don't need to use glasses. I also am now setting everything manually which I had to learn how to do. It is a really neat camera and has a lot of methods by which one can take a photo and a lot of features. I chose to keep taking photos of these very small blooms figuring that if I could focus on ones this small (blue portion is only about 1/2 inch long), larger ones will be a snap. I finally figured out how to obtain a few that were pretty much in focus on what I wanted to show of the blooms. I still have a long way to go before I can say that I know how to use this camera.
What I really like about the camera is that the colors are true with low light and in sunlight. I always had a lot of difficulty with blues, purples and reds with my other camera. The photos of this plant were taken during a very, very overcast day. What I don't like is the camera is very, very small. I keep pushing buttons I don't mean to push and messing up my settings. Also, even though it has a "shake" eliminator feature, it is highly sensitive to the slightest movement using the macro feature. This may be due to my having difficulty getting used to its small size. I hope I become used to it.
I didn't mean to do on and on. I guess I am happy I was able to take a few photos that I felt I could upload to the PlantFiles. Thank you for your comment.
Joseph, the plant's bloom color is just amazingly beautiful. Set against the cool weather color of the leaves which is a maroon of sorts, the blooms tend to just pop out at you. They do as well when the foliage is green; however, they are not as striking. I just wish that the blooms were larger. Thanks for your comment.
It sure takes great close ups with you manually focusing! I think it is great you are learning so much. I need to learn too but I am dragging my feet. So it is a Supershot and not Cybershot? I have been looking at the Sony Cyber-shotŪ DSC-H9 Digital Camera but I have read some bad reviews among good ones. I wish they would come out with the next modal. I think they are about due.
I know there are chat rooms at different sites that discuss cameras. I think Sony has one. You may learn what you feel the manual is lacking. I should go look myself and see what users are saying about the one I want.
Kell, I goofed ... the camera is a Sony Cyber-shotŪ DSC-H2. The man who wrote the review at the link below has an excellent site that is named "the white paper" which pretty much tells you everything you need to know about using a Sony H-series camera. Without his step-by-step (easy to understand) instructions), I think would have given up and kept using my old camera.
Here is his review of the DSC-H7 and DSC-H9:

I will check out the Sony chat rooms and instructional sites. Thanks for reminding me about them.
A friend of mine has the DSC-H5 and loves it. Her pictures are always so crisp and clean. In fact the quality of her pics are the only reason I am interested in getting a Sony.
I am off to read your links. THANKS!!
You're welcome.
