Is it perennial where you live?

Joseph, it is supposed to be. I had 3 plants that were growing in a large container a few years ago. Most of the time I protect my "special plants" that are in containers. I had forgotten to protect them. When it dawned on me that I had forgotten about them, I thought they would be okay because they had survived 2 winters with no protection during a couple of freezes ... however, they bit the dust. They usually die back to the soil level after a hard freeze and then resprout from the base in the spring.

Now that I have an 8 X 10 greenhouse (a very cheap one), I don't have to scurry around so much when it is going to freeze. It is difficult in my hardiness zone because we will have freezing temps at night and then fairly warm (even hot) days during the winter. the daytime temps rarely saty in the 40s in the daytime. 40s and 50s are cold weather to us. So, you have to cover the plants and then not leave them covered too long so they don't burn up. I still drag a few plants in and out of my house. I also have to monitor the greenhouse temps. A small heater is used when the temps fall. Then, when its 85 outside, the greenhouse becomes very hot.

I was very sad because they are difficult to find around here. The leaves are so lovely in cool weather because they turn maroon which makes the blooms really pop. The blooms are very, very small. I jumped for joy when I found them for sale last week at my favorite nursery and bought 3 four inch containers very quickly.

It's good to hear from you.

I will have to look to see if I have seeds of this species. Thanks for all this great information!
