Broken Hinge on Laptop

Hi all:
Have a Gateway # Mx6421 . The hinge on the left side broke( looking at the screen) broke. Is this a factory repair or a techno-geek job. We're in the boonies so have to find the easiest fix. Any ideas ? Ol'Tom Cat...Dennis
