I went on a mission this year to try different tomato varieties and have quite a few extra plants. Just recently we decided to go to Costa Rica for Spring Break and while I have a college kid who is going to stay here and plant/animal sit, I am not sure how many of my little plants will survive this. If anyone is in the Austin area and wants some tomato plants, I have the following: Aunt Gerties' Gold, Black Cherry, Arkansas Traveler, Cherokee Purple, Neves Azorean Red, Kellog's Breakfast, Homestead, and Black from Tula.
Annie
need tomato plants?
When is your spring break?
March 8 - 16
I'll have to check the calendar and see what all is up between now and then on the weekend but maybe I can help ya out by coming over your way and getting a few of them from ya.
annie, I am in Kyle and am also trying some new tomatoes. Just got my seed planted. What can I give you for some of your tomatoes? We have a small 'mom & pop' nursery here. Gene
Gene,
You don't need to give me anything other than a good home for some of my mater babies. Let me know what you are interested in and maybe we can meet somewhere in between.
Annie
Annie, the only one on your list that I have is Homestead. I will take whatever you want to give. Where are you in Austin? North, South, ???? Suggest a place and Ivy and I will be there. We are retired so our time is our own. We could treat you to lunch. There is a Firrs cafeteria on I-35 just south of Ben White?? Pick a day, time, and place and I am sure we can make it. We have our first farmers market tomorrow but no other commitments.
Looking forward to meeting you! Gene and Ivy
Where is the farmer's market?
Annie
AnnieJo...after talking to hubby about it and driving over to meet someplace I guess I need to say thanks but I can't come help ya out. :(
He says with the ones I have started here already I don't need any more even though I reminded him of how he likes to eat them but he's not buying my lines.
Well, I'm sorry we don't live closer or I would drive them to you! Flint is a ways from Austin!
Annie
Yeah me too and yeah it is around 2 -2 1/2 hours dang it.
Annie, we do farmers markets in San Marcos, Wimberely, and Buda. There is a BIG one in Austin at Brodie and Ben White, in the old stadium parking lot. Wolf used to have a nursery there. It is just too big for our small operation. Our season first was today in San Marcos. Gene & Ivy
Annie,
I think we've "spoken" over on the tomatos forum on the Black Cherry thread. I finally got them to sprout. I've seen so much discussion on the Cherokee Purple that I'd like to try it this year. Do you think you might spare a plant or two? I have extras of other tomatoes, and extras of several types of sweet peppers if you are interested.
David
David,
What rotten timing! I just took them over this morning to some friends of mine that work at a local nursery. I have kept three of each variety for myself thinking that the housesitter will kill some of them while I am gone. If they all survive, I will probably have one that I can let you have.
Annie
Oh well! I'll just have to grow some out. I only check the Texas forum every week or two.
The offer of my spares, tomatos or peppers, is still open, especially if you have trouble with the house-sitter and the baby plants not surviving. I'm growing several of the same tomatoes you have, but a few that you didn't list, too. Of course, I've never grown this many from seed so I guess there's no guarantee that mine will survive, either.
