Container Hangers for Brick Wall...suggestions

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

My container garden is rapidly outgrowing the small patio space I have available at my apartment/townhome. I want to hang some containers from the brick walls that separate my patio from the neighbors. The brick is about 3 1/2 inches thick. Do any of you have any suggestions on where to look for the hangers I'll need? I'm not sure I'm allowed to drill into the brick but I do have a drill and masonry bits. Thanks for any advice or tips.

I have this one and another one that's double. Years ago I had them installed on the back of a brick garage. They were purchased in New Orleans but I'm sure there are many online shops that would carry cast iron (or wrought iron) planters for walls.

hangapot - see the thread in the co-op section. It may be what you are looking for...

Thanks, that one is really pretty. I'll go and google and see what comes up.

We crossed in posting:) I had seen that co-op and wasn't sure if they would be suitable for bricks. Thank you!

I just found this one: http://www.koehlerhomedecor.com/37303.html

I wish I remembered the name or where I'd seen them, but I've seen hangers that somehow clamp onto the brick itself so you don't have to drill into the bricks. I'll keep my eyes open as I'm flipping through this week's gardening catalogs and try to get a name or a website for you if I run across them again.

Thanks pirl! That is really cute and reasonably priced. I'm saving that to favorites while I poke around. Really appreciate your suggestions.

ecrane--thanks! I vaguely remember seeing those somewhere too! Thanks for your help:)

Oh man! The way I'm buying co-op plants and bulbs here and at the yahoo co-ops that might not be a bad idea:)

This is how the hangapot attaches to masonry:

Quoting:
Masonry -- For block, brick, stucco or stone walls, drill holes 1" deep by 1/4" wide, using a masonry drill bit. Insert 1/4" plastic anchors, and tap flush with the masonry surface, or use the Tapcon, commonly known as the "blue screw" (available at any hardware store; Tapcon sells the right drill bit for each size screw). It's easy -- it will take about 30 seconds to install.

I'd be interested to see a hanger that grips the brick but doesn't need to be screwed in. I could find tons of uses for that....

Those are very helpful instructions--thank you.

Now that I think about it, I think the metal clips were more for hanging decorative items like photos, mirrors and such on fireplace brick.

I just found this (of course in UK) but I'm sure I can find them stateside:)

Check out this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/563917/

and scroll down to see the same area in winter! What a difference. Many of the plants are grown in pots on the wall.

Hey - that is perfect for what McGlory wants for a vinyl porch rail.

The Hookery in Vermont:) I'll be going to look it over. I found a cool plant hanger clip from a place in Australia too. It's a shame it costs so much to ship overseas:)

Thanks all!

I found the things I was talking about--they weren't specifically designed to hold pots though, so some pots may work and others may not, but hopefully you can figure out a way to make it work
